ABOUT BEAN'RE. Named the official Mayor of Fun at the world famous Buffalo Chip Campground at Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Bean’re brings his Mayor of Fun antics to all kinds of cultures and situations around the globe doing what he does best, showing off and having fun with people from all walks in life. His colorful personality is reflected in his style of dress: zoot suits and rattlesnake head top hats. He earned the title ten years ago, by world renowned photographer, Michael Lichter. He now carries the nomenclature onto the Buffalo Chip.
Over all the years, his simple, yet giant life presence continues to attract attention and not because he has to try at all. It’s his genuine personality that is so outrageous. “I found out what it means to really be rich in life. There’s a lot of wealth in the art of having fun and having great experiences with pretty much no money. It’s all about enjoying the ride...the ride of life,” tells Bean’re, who is proudly clean and sober.
He calls the road home and claims no official residence. A master carpenter by trade, he’ll also take whatever interesting work he can find to earn expense money and keep on keepin on. Often times, he’ll take on a project for no money, just to help out, like building a wheelchair ramp for a senior citizen and then testing that ramp with some motorcycle stunts.
For over twenty years this former Marine has been an untamed mustang running free on ribbons of asphalt and gravel road with his side-splitting antics and wit. He is constantly sharing with the world his life on the road as Mayor of Fun. Everything Bean’re in the social media realm is rapidly and organically growing and he’s recognized most everywhere he roams. His social media outreach is rich with opportunity as fans are constantly sending invites to participate in all kinds of whacky, exciting and sometimes bazaar events. Who wouldn’t want the Mayor of Fun to roll into town and turn it upside down? “Hey, I like to turn a frown upside down in more ways then you can shake a can of soda at,” snickers Bean’re.
A rogue columnist for the popular Cycle Source Magazine, Bean’re says “I write my columns about my experiences on the road. So, it’s hard to actually end that month’s column because so much is still going on ‘cause my life is like gonzo journalism.” His spontaneous experiences lands him in the company of celebrities like when he traded top hats with Steven Tyler before an Aerosmith concert, enjoying a random dinner with Ewen MacGregor after having visited him with a friend on a movie set, and shooting guns with Lorenzo Lamas.
Publisher Timothy Remus, seeing a comedian-like Then Came Bronson character in Bean’re, released his memoir Motorcycle Nomad in October 2012. In February 2013, the book went into second printing. In addition, David Uhl, top fine artist, completed a canvas of this motorcycle gypsy’s lifestyle, which also became the cover to Bean're's book. The 2012 painting quickly became the fastest selling official Sturgis Motorcycle Rally artwork to date.
One of the latest projects is a high profile sponsored bike Bean’re is building called the Million Mile Bike that will be able to withstand his insane riding style and go the distance for years to come. Cruising swap meets and people’s garages and putting the calls out through Facebook is how this motorcycle nomad acquires lots of interesting parts and pieces to build his unique two wheeled freedom machine, too.
Chucking a conventional lifestyle and living wild and free on two wheels seems to pique the interest of people by and large, worldwide, including those without even a remote interest to ride. Everybody is tethered in some way. But not Bean’re.
Hundreds of thousands of miles and years on the road worldwide is testimony to his love affair living wide open on a motorcycle, meeting new folks and enjoying outrageous adventures.
“All kinds of people find my life interesting. It’s definitely a lifestyle choice to just live like it’s one big giant ride, and everybody wants some of that!” chuckles Bean’re.
