This monument is a symbol of the Confederacy which was founded on the idea of white supremacy and supported the institution of slavery. A government should represent and serve everyone and should never support the oppression of a group of its citizens. This is not patriotism, this is racism.

Confederate symbols should only be present in museums where they can be viewed alongside a full history of slavery, but they should not be publicly exhibited in a display of honor. I strongly urge you to reconsider the maintenance and support of this monument and realize what it represents and why it should be removed.
