Task 5
Your friend from England is going to visit you in summer. Write him a letter
and describe your native city:
- name, place, its description;
- historical facts;
- what visitors can see and do there;
- your recommendations.
Hello, John!
Welcome to Ukraine! I’m looking forward to seeing you in summer. Take your digital camera and comfortable shoes with you as I want to take you around my city to see the sights.
I live in Kirovograd. It is an old city that was founded in 1754. Kirovograd is not very big but beautiful. We are going to visit the old fortress of St.Elizabeth, some museums and Art galleries. We can admire interesting comedies at the Ukrainian Drama Theatre named after M.Kropivnitskiy. The building of the theatre is beautiful and it was restored several years ago. My favourite place is the Dendropark, where you can see lots of wonderful tulips of different colours in spring. It is the most popular place in our city as it offers a lot of entertainment and attractions.
Next on our list is visiting of our national restaurants that serve traditional Ukrainian dishes such as borshch, golubzy and vareniki. In the evening we can visit a nightclub to forget about daily routine and to rest in cosy atmosphere.
My city is not so big, modern and developed as our capital is. But the air is cleaner and people are friendlier here. I like my hometown. I hope your visit to Kirovograd will be an unforgettable experience. There is so much to see and to do here.
That’s all for now. Hope to see you soon.
Love,
Ann
