Magesa - Bday and bachelorette party!!! It turns out we’re aces at escape rooms. I’ve also been doing wedding planning, including ceremony writing. As for HS: in Zarimi Priest, I'm still doing the mixologist/grub thing. Had some pretty crazy Zarimi vs. Overheal games. I also played some rainbow shaman and a bunch of DK the past couple of days. Incindius shaman only worked for my opponent
News Highlights -
30.2 patch notes - https://playhearthstone.com/en-us/blog/24122902/
- Battlegrounds
- Marin’s Resort Treasure Hunt Event
- Weekly quests instead of a legendary quest chain. Three weekly quests gives the first three rewards; dailies can help you get to the fourth reward
- Weekly Quests are unlocked for all players on a weekly reset (start of event, day 7, and day 14), but players who start late or don’t finish one Weekly Quest before the next one is live will be given the next one immediately upon completing the one they were on—giving the opportunity to catch up.
- Rewards: 14 total packs:

- Usual disclaimer, emphasized for Wild
- Lots of bug fixes, notably including:
- [General] Fixed a bug where playing on full screen Mac desktop and tabbing away from the game would cause a crash.
- [General] Improved Shop Badging (the “!”), including badging on subcategories to make it clearer what is new and removing redundancy across devices so you don’t see the same new thing multiple times.
- [Hearthstone] Updates to the “bonus effect” keyword! Stealth has been replaced with Elusive in the pool of bonus effects. Additionally, Rush will no longer be granted to minions that can already attack for the turn, that already did attack for the turn, or if it’s not your turn.
- [Hearthstone] Hydration Station will now only be able to be played if any Taunt minions have died.
- [Hearthstone] Fixed a bug where Cabaret Headliner could target spells that Cost 0 when there were other options available.
- Funny ones:
- [Hearthstone] Explained to Magic Wisdomball that locations aren’t minions, but they do take up spots on the board, so Mirror Image is not actually helpful if you have a board full of minions and locations.
- [Hearthstone] Fixed a bug where if your max mana was already above 20, Wildheart Guff wouldn’t reset it to 20.

Other 1-ofs:
Big DH - 1 (jtsnow), Frost DK (FFF) - 1 (jtsnow), Unholy Aggro DK (UUU) - 1 (glacier)
Incindius Shaman - 1 (phantominor), Elemental Shaman - 1, Reno Warrior - 1
Odyn Warrior - 1 (namulith), Mech Warror - 1 (probiwan), Menagerie Warrior - 1 (pylet)
Lynessa Paladin - 1 (Keith), Elemental Mage - 1, Big Spell Mage - 1 (yumrose)
Highlights:
- An extremely fast game in which both players got down to 1 health.
- Ghett0tech on painlock had the following opener: t1 party fiend, blood treant, coin flame imp (partly cleared by a jam session); t2 spirit bomb, party fiend, molten giant. This left Ghett0tech with an empty hand and 7 life, and Glacier on 1 life after turn 4. Glacier had two sigils of skydiving, but that’s only 6 damage.
- It kind of suffices to say that Rayla Sand Sculptor is filthy in rogue (came from an Everything Must Go)
Decksplanations
Buttons Death Knight decks
(Note: VS is calling these “Frost Rainbow DK” and “Rainbow Rainbow DK,” by way of analogy to Rainbow Mage; others have said Double Rainbow DK)
Elevator Pitch:
Chip the opponent down with little damage that bursts into big damage and boards around turn 6.
Decklists:
DK Decklist Link
- VS’s “Rainbow Rainbow DK” (popularized by Theo)
- VS’s “Frost Rainbow DK” (popularized by Jambre, who ran 2 cabaret headliners instead of the hardcore cultists)
- A corpsicle FFU build (first streamed by packetoff)
- List WickedGood found with more draw and cabaret headliner

Macro Gameplan and Matchups:
- Mostly, you’re breaking the opponent down with lots of little minions, horizon’s edge, and (if you’re running it) corpsicle. You’ve got big swing turns with dazzler and brittlebone + reska. And you’ve got as finishers either eliza + ghouls’ night (BFU) or marrow manipulator (FFU).
- Rainbow vs Frost variants:
- The rainbow is a lot slower and more reliant on bursts; it has Zilliax, threads, seamstress, etc. as controlling tools. Also relies a lot on Eliza and corpsicle to wear the opponent down over more time
- The frost is more of an aggro deck with big swings and finishers if it doesn’t just overwhelm early. It does still have lots of ways to reclaim board though; doesn’t need to always be ahead. Might be a bit better against druid.
- In general, these are our good matchups, for both variants. You have LOTS of ways to keep the opponent’s board clear while still sending chip damage face. Then eventually you can overwhelm with dazzler. Remember that if you’re playing the frost version, you don’t have threads as an out, so it’s more important to keep the board clear (or utilize Reska as an out).
- Painlock is interesting because their self
- Druid: Unfortunately, this is not a favored matchup, particularly against ramp druid. The frost version may be somewhat better in the matchup (though still unfavored). You want to try to overwhelm them as fast as possible. You probably won’t beat their ramp entirely, but you want to be close. Then you can hopefully burst down a fye with direct damage spells or steal it with Reska
- Handbuff Paladin: Reska is huge here. But also handbuff generally has trouble with super wide boards, which we can make. Do watch out for lifesteal and try to clear without trading when possible
- Insanity Warlock: A pretty winnable matchup. Watch out for your health total and the possibility of their pop’gar crescendo. But you can rebuild boards easily
- Highlander Warrior: I haven't seen much of this personally; HSR says we’re favored
Mulligan:
Card Notes & Micro Gameplay:
- Properly sequencing Reska turns
- How greedy to be (and more importantly, not be) with Dazzler
- Plan your spell schools ahead
- Also be sure you have room on board!
- I’ll admit it: I was wrong about natural talent
- What to look for off frost strike (anecdotes about my poor opponents when I got two reskas on the one hand and an eliza + brittlebone + dead air in another game)
- Gorgonzormu: play early unless that loses you too much board, but then don’t be greedy on the cheese (as with most decks with gorgonzormu)
- Marrow Manipulator: sometimes is a clear, but you want to try to clear other ways if possible first
- Brittlebone - do you need to save it for Reska?
- Horn of Winter: it’s kind of like the coin, we’re playing for pressure so we often want it soon but think ahead to whether you’ll need it on a different turn soon and don’t waste it for a hero power (usually)
