1.  The people of Chicago needed help during and after the fire. Ask students to name different kinds of helping groups that come to people's aid today. (Red Cross, Salvation Army, police, fire departments, national guard, coast guard, church groups, volunteers) Then discuss the kinds of help that people need in a time of disaster. (food, water, medicine, counseling, shelter, clothing, help in locating relatives and in rebuilding)
