GAIETIES AT CAIRO

I hear that Cairo has been very gay this season. Some wonderful parties have been given, one by the Kings aunt, Princess Nazli Halim, at which all the diplomatic corps were present. The Princess keeps up a great deal of state, and occupied a throne chair, in which she sat and smoked innumerable cigarettes in a cigarette holder blazing with diamonds and rubies. But she took the trouble to go and speak to the English musicians, Mr. Detmar Dressel and Mr. Ivor Newton.

The artist, Mr. de Laszlo, has been at Cairo for some weeks painting portraits of King Fuad [4094][113256][110671][4099] and his son [4122].
