Happy Thanksgiving! (Thursday, November 26th)
November 23, 2015
Welcome to Our Newest Majors: Julie Child - EST, & Matt Beyer - AEG. Please do not hesitate to let us know how we can best support you with your goals. (Geol = Geology major, AEG = Applied Environmental Geosciences major, EST = Earth Science Teaching major).
Congratulations, Lt. Col. Hernandez: Our own Dr. Michael Hernandez recently retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserves after a 27-year military career that included both active and reserve duty. His most recent duty assignment was as an airlift director and planner for the 618th Air Operations Center at Scott Air Force base, Illinois. We are all very appreciative of Michael's service to our country, and we wish him and his family well as they begin a new phase of their lives.
Scholarship Information: We want to be sure that as many of our majors as possible are aware of, and have time to apply for, 2016-2017 academic scholarships. The application process for University-level scholarships is open now. In order to qualify for college and/or department level scholarships you must also have filled out the information at the university level. College of Science scholarships open around January, and applications for Department of Geosciences scholarships will open around February.
Online Course evaluations: You should soon receive an email invitation to complete a course evaluation for each of your classes using Chi Tester. Your evaluations and feedback, especially your written comments, are very important as we work to improve our teaching and course materials. Please take a couple of minutes to complete the online evaluations. The attached flyer has a QR code that will allow you to access course evaluations with a smart phone. Thank you for your attention to this important announcement.
Bus Proposal Between Davis & Ogden Campuses: WSU student Tyler Hall is trying to get the UTA to provide bus service Davis & Ogden campuses during peak hours. Please take a couple of minutes to fill out the survey (only 5 questions). Tyler has also offered his email as a point of contact should anyone have any questions and/or would like to get involved in the effort. He can be reached at tylerhall@weber.edu.
Free Walk-in Science Tutoring: The College of Science Learning & Testing Center is located on the 2nd floor of the Science Lab Building (SL 229). Students can walk in and receive free tutoring for their Geoscience, Chemistry, Microbiology, Physics and/or Zoology classes. The schedule for each tutor is attached.
