‘Fortunes In Art’, Sunday Express, 27 April 1924
MR. AMBROSE McEVOY’S election to the Royal Academy will send up his prices in America a little higher. While he was there last the millionairesses fought for sittings. He just sat and picked and chose at a thousand pounds a portrait. Mr. Augustus John does likewise, and Mr. de Laszlo was equally fortunate on his last visit. They pay well for art in America.
I used to know a sculptor named Lynn Jenkins. He had a studio in the King’s-road and did some fine work. But omnibus conductors made more money. So he went to New York about ten years ago, and there he sculpts in a palace and rides in a Rolls-Royce and wouldn’t come back to London to live for anything.
