Announcement: I would like to declare that this guide is COMPLETE after editing the puzzles for each of the puzzles set by the Dogus. Thank you for reading my guide.

Introduction

The Hachiyou (8 Demons) now also appear in the 2nd part of Return of Goddess of Time. The mechanics are similar to the Hachiyou that you fought in the 1st part of Return of Goddess of Time. All you need to do is to win against the 8 bosses located across Antiquity Garulea, get the Miaki weapon set and get a gold medal and 50 Chrono Stones as a completion reward.

Like the first part, the Hachiyou bosses are very hard content, and would need a specialised team in order to be able to beat the bosses. The Volume 2 Hachiyou bosses will have around 10 - 20 million HP, which is about as twice as much HP as the Hachiyou bosses in Volume 1, and the attack patterns are going to be more annoying than the ones in Volume 1. This guide will help you solve the puzzles for each of the bosses, along with the tips on how to win each of the bosses and the weapons provided to you when you defeated them.

How to start

Unlike the 1st part, which you can immediately fight the 8 bosses, you MUST obtain Jyomondo Key available at the 58th chapter of the main story at the 2nd layer of Funeral Cave, which then you can go to the upper-left house of Gadaro, and the event starts when you strike a conversation with the Dogu Master.

Instead of waiting for 30 minutes in order to get the key item to fight the 8 bosses like in Volume 1, you can go to any of the bosses immediately, but you have to solve the puzzles set by the Dogu in front of the stone gate to get the key item in order to fight them.

Dogu puzzle: “You must discern a word that I seek, for your wish to be granted. Those who know the word are in a hidden path right of the Funeral Cavern’s entrance. Question them to reveal what word it is that I seek.”

        Solution

  1. Go to the Funeral Cave
  2. Talk with the Dogu at the right of the cave’s entrance
  3. Answer the three questions using the clay figurines at the very right
  1. Question 1: What do children waste, adults need more of, and the old have little of? (Answer: Time)
  2. Question 2: When outdoors on a journey, a home does this become. What is it? (Answer: Tent)
  3. Question 3: What is the place a ship calls home? (Answer: Port)
  1. Tap the three Dogus to enter the answer
  2. Go back to the clay figurine you first met and answer its question
  1. Answer: Mentor

Inflict Poison at end of turn

4

Non-elemental magical attack to all party members

Inflict Poison at end of turn

5

Wind magical attack to all party members

Inflict Poison at end of turn

        Strategy

  1. This boss is so fast, even the fastest party member in your team would have to go after the boss attacks. Even SPD debuff VC wouldn’t make it slower than your fastest party members. The only way to deal with this is by acting 1 turn earlier than normal
  2. The boss will deplete all of your front party members’ MP at turns 5n+1, so your 2 sub party members will be your starting members for the team.
  3. Since the boss’ wind damage is high, Gariyu AS is totally a must since he can deploy Raging Fire Stance which decreases wind damage by 50%, but even so wouldn’t mitigate the damage enough. Luckily enough, all of the boss’ attacks are magic based, so forming a physical-damage based team and Mana to gain the most out of her “Queen of Hearts” skill would be your best choice
  4. For each turn of the fight, the boss will inflict Poison to the entire team, which deals about 600-800 damage. Make sure your healing can keep up, otherwise the poison would be the thing that will finish off your party members, not the boss’ attacks. A supporter with status removal would be ideal, but since this is applied for every turn, and in order to deal as much damage as possible for every turn, a L heal would be more recommended. Rosetta would be ideal as she can nullify status effects once, which would make healing easier to keep up, but if you don’t have her, you can still go with the classic Mariel OG
  5. The boss has around 20 million HP, so defeating the boss with only 1 full AF wouldn’t make the cut (unless your team is strong enough).
  1. If your fire team’s AF damage does not reach 15 million damage or above,
  1. You can either play it long until you can deal enough damage to the boss to finish it in 1 full AF
  2. Or you can do 2 full AFs, but make sure to find the perfect timing for your fire team to initiate AF, or your formation will fall apart and getting one-hit KOed due to the lack of INT debuff
  1. If your fire team’s AF reaches 20 million damage or above,
  1. EZ game, but make sure to find the perfect timing for your fire team to finish it off in only 1 AF, otherwise your formation will fall apart and getting one-hit KOed due to the lack of INT debuff

        Recommended party members

  • Fire Attackers
  • Gariyu AS (MUST HAVE)
  • Akane AS
  • Ewan (with maxed out manifest weapon)
  • Shion (with maxed out manifest weapon)
  • Lovely
  • Tsukiha
  • Hozuki
  • Miyu (her 30% wind resistance buff would be a good addition, but it’s not recommended to use her in AF due to her low damage input)
  • Supporter/Healer
  • Mana (maybe for the first few turns if you’re killing the boss in 1 AF, but a MUST if you’re fighting for a long time)
  • Rosetta (more preferable)
  • Mariel OG
  • Yuna (if you’re too lazy to finish IDA 3, you can use her as an alternative with “Malign Expulsion”)

Anecdote Time: When I first started fighting this boss, my Mana had 300 SPD, and even so Yasuzume could outspeed her. Only when I used Gariyu AS’ VC, which decreases enemy’s SPD by 20% that Mana could attack first before Yasuzume can. This shows how ridiculously fast the boss is

2nd pattern (when there are no allies on battlefield)

1

3

4

Magical attack to all party members and inflict Sleep

Wind magical attack to a single party member

Poisonous Moth

Magical attack to a party member and inflict Sleep

Magical attack to a party member and inflict Stun

Magical attack to a party member and inflict Poison

        Strategy

  1. Gariyu AS’ Raging Fire Stance is essential as all of Kodama’s attacks are wind, and the zone would decrease wind damage by 50% damage, which allows you party to take less damage and does more damage
  2. The Kodama’s allies are very annoying as not only it buffs either PWR or INT each turn, it can inflict Sleep and Stun, which may hinder your switching patterns and reduce your overall DPS. It’s recommended to defeat them first before targeting Kodama again. In addition, doing so would avoid it to hide from battle on turn 5 (or turn 6 for the second attack pattern) and you can still attack it as normal
  3. At every 4n+4 turn (or 5n+5 turn for the second attack pattern), you cannot switch with your sub members. You can remove this by defeating an ally after the Kodama hides itself from the battle. If you want to defeat the boss fast with an AF, make sure to switch with your fire attackers at turns 4n+4 (or 5n+5 turn for the second attack pattern)
  4. The boss has 15 million HP, but since the pattern isn’t as annoying as Yasuzume, and Kodama’s SPD isn’t as high as Yasuzume, you can initiate AF at any time you find it convenient, but make sure the entanglement at turns 4n+4 (5n+5 for the second pattern) does not activate without all your fire attackers on the front

        Recommended party members

  • Fire Attackers
  • Gariyu AS (essential)
  • Gariyu (with maxed out manifest weapon)
  • Akane AS
  • Ewan
  • Lovely
  • Tsukiha
  • Shion (with maxed out manifest weapon)
  • Hozuki
  • Aldo
  • Renri
  • Supporter/Healer
  • Yuna (more preferable than Mana as she can reduce both PWR and INT stat of the boss)
  • Mariel OG/AS
  • Rosetta

Turn

Attack

-

Magic counter (100 turns) + Type resistance up to self (100 turns, max stack 5)

When counter

Fire physical attack to all party members + PWR debuff + INT debuff (max stack 99)

1

Fire magical attack to all party members and inflict Confusion

2

Fire magical attack to a single party member and inflict Seal (activates twice)

3

Fire magical attack to a single party member + Fire resistance down (max stack 99)

4

Fire physical attack to all party members + PWR and INT debuff (max stack 99)

5

Flat 99999 damage to a single party member

        Strategy

  1. By knowing that the boss has a magic counter, it’s best not to use any staff users unless you use them for debuffing, healing or removing status effects. Your water mages can join in for the attack, providing that you can finish the boss with 1 AF
  2. For turns 4n+4, or when the boss counters when it receives magical damage, it would hit you with a fire physical attack that would decrease your PWR and INT stat permanently. It’s acceptable if that stack reaches 3, but any higher and you won’t be able to finish off the boss when its type resistance buff stacks up too much. You can get your DPS characters back to sub to avoid that debuff if you want your DPS to be as high as you can get in the fight
  3. The boss’ type resistance buff will increase its stack by 1 as its HP gets lower (presumably for every 20% HP lost), reaching a max stack of 5. It would be recommended to defeat it using an AF at stack of 3 as any higher would make the boss fight harder due to dealing less damage than normal, and lower if your PWR and INT debuff stack gets too high
  4. On turns 5n+5, there will be a guaranteed death for one of your party members, which is super annoying (I mean, who likes seeing one of their party members die every 5 turns of the battle?). There are 3 ways to counter this.
  1. Use Kikyo or Galliard to mitigate that damage. Kikyo’s “Storm Blade” allows her to summon a clone of herself, which would ignore all damage once, even the flat 99999 damage. However, if you don’t have Kikyo (due to your unlucky RNG in gacha), Galliard is your alternative. His “Thunderbolt” allows him to charge his attack AND removes himself from battle during the charge, which makes the attack miss. As easy as it sounds, he would be a much harder character to use as he’s a 4* character, his SPD stat is lower than your average 5* character, meaning that he has to act 1 turn earlier to activate the skill, otherwise the plan will fail
  2. Use Mariel AS’ “Prodigium” skill, as it has the ability to revive the dead party member after the boss’ 99999 damage attack. However, you have to make sure Mariel is not the target as she can’t revive herself back alive. In addition, if Mariel AS’ Gospel stack is 0, the revived party member starts with 1 HP, which is not ideal to immediately switch in that member, but since you’re going to heal using “Sanation Columna” for most of the time, the problem with the number of Gospel stack is trivial
  3. Defeat the boss before turn 5, provided that you are able to deal 20 million AF damage in 1 AF, since the boss has 20 million HP. Yuna AS would be a good choice in this boss fight if you’re planning to do so as not only she can help increase your water team’s damage by 50% and reduce damage taken by 50% due to her Sacred Water Stance, each attack fills the AF by 7.5%, which helps to extend the AF longer.

        Recommended party members

  • Kikyo (MUST HAVE for avoiding the 99999 damage on turn 5n+5)
  • Galliard (alternative if your gacha RNG sucks and weren’t able to pull Kikyo)
  • Water Attackers
  • Hisumena
  • Nikeh AS
  • Shanie OG/AS
  • Mighty AS
  • Shigure
  • Laclair OG (with maxed out manifest weapon)/AS
  • Melina OG/AS
  • Supporter/Healer
  • Yuna AS (good if you want to finish off the boss fast in 1 AF, or to purely reduce damage taken)
  • Yuna (this version can be used to just debuff and remove status effects)
  • Mariel AS (AS form is used to revive dead party members after the 99999 damage attack)
  • Mariel OG (this version is purely for heals only and possibly status removal from her “Cure Leaf” skill)
  • Mana (if you decide that you’re fighting the boss for a long time, you can use Mana to remove the type resistance buff, which would make the fight much easier in the late game)

Dogu puzzle: There is a pair of cat dogu on the altar of the mountain shrine maiden’s house. Listen to what they have to say at the same time, though the one on the left will speak first.

        Solution

  1. Go to Himika’s mansion in Gadaro
  2. Tap the Dogu shaped like a cat in front of the altar in the center
  3. Read what the left and right one says (left one first). This will be a mathematical problem, where you have to add two numbers. The left dogu will say the first number plus. Flat 2500 damage to all party members

3

15% MP damage to all party members + PWR and INT debuff

4

Physical attack on a single party member and heal self

5

Earth physical attack on all party members

        Special effects

  • Start of turn: PWR and INT buff to self (max stack 99) and Physical and Type resistance debuff to self (max stack 99)
  • Greatly reduces the damage taken from non-critical attacks

        Strategy

  1. You can actually deal damage to the boss ONLY if the attack is critical. Dunarith will be your best choice since he can provide your wind team with 100% critical chance buff for 1 move. Isuka AS is another option, but 60% critical chance buff may not allow your wind team to deal damage consistently during AF.
  2. The increase in PWR and INT and decrease in Physical and Type resistance for each stack is not significant, thus while the buff may not pose a threat to you, you won’t be dealing any much more damage for each turn. You still need to debuff though, as the boss can still deal high damage to your party members without buff, but since Genkame’s attacks are all physical-based, you just have to decrease its PWR stat.
  3. It’s best to finish this boss in 1 AF, as the boss only has 11 million HP. You may not be able to do this since your critical chance is not always 100% just because you don’t have Dunarith, but using “Bless Soul” every time in AF would solve the problem, even though there’s one less attacker joining. If you have Claude AS, this battle would be much easier since Wind King Stance increases wind damage by 50% and 7.5% AF fill for each attack.

        Recommended party members

  • Wind Attackers
  • Claude AS (not necessary but makes the boss fight easier if you have him)
  • Isuka AS (an alternative if you don’t have Dunarith)
  • Suzette (with maxed out manifest weapon)
  • Azami (with maxed out manifest weapon)
  • Felmina
  • Ruina AS
  • Biaka
  • Amy

        Special effects

  • Remove all debuffs at the end of every turn
  • Lights up to 3 party members, dealing random 1-3x flat 800 damage to random targets and inflict Blind

        Strategy

  1. Since the boss has 10 million HP, you can finish the battle quickly with 1 AF. It would be better if you have Claude AS as he has Wind King Stance, which increases wind damage by 50% and decreases earth damage by 50%.
  2. The boss’ attacks are not that threatening because you can just decrease its INT stat. However, what’s threatening are its special effects. Not only will it remove all debuffs your party members applied at the end of every turn, meaning that you have to INT debuff the boss every turn, its 800 damage with Blind status is the annoying thing about the boss (in case you don’t know, Blind allows certain hits to be missed). This will make your damage in AF inconsistent, so you will need to remove it by using Yuna or Mariel with her “Cure Leaf” skill. In addition, in case you may not notice, Claude AS not only activates Wind King Stance, but his “Freikugel” skill allows all party members to be immune to status effects once while he’s in Wind King Stance, making the battle much easier.

Dogu puzzle: In a seaside village dwells a foul straw dummy who slipped into the Funeral Cavern and pillaged the offerings there. The Liar’s Curse was cast on them, but they managed to escape. Therefore the culprit can only tell lies while others will tell the truth. Find the culprit out of four suspects and admonish them to never commit such a foul deed again. Sow this Mustard Fluid they detest in their soil to execute the punishment. If, by any chance, you punish the wrong straw dummy, come speak with me again.

        Solution

  • Members with a green light appearing underneath will be inflicted with Petrification

4

SPD buff to self

        Special effects

  • When defeated, the boss would split itself into 2 twice

        Strategy

  1. The boss may look as simple at first, due to you being able to defeat it with a half AF. However, the real pain starts when it splits into 2. The boss splits into 2 doesn’t mean its attack power be halved, and more targets for Petrification status, and it will be impossible for you to deal with 4 of them without finishing off with 1 full AF.
  2. Make sure you have your Petrification Resistance Badge from your trip to the Dogma Tower in “The Celestial Tower and the Shadow Witch” episode, preferably 2. This badge will go to the character that can remove status effects and your healer. When one or more party members are petrified, you don’t have to worry about your healer and use that immunity to your advantage by removing the Petrification status from all of your party members, allowing the boss fight to be much easier. Remember, petrified party members cannot be healed or take damage from enemies, so remember to remove the status effect first before the heal.
  3. The fact that splitting the boss into 2 or 4 does not change how painful it is to take damage from the boss’ magical attacks, so INT debuff is necessary when fighting this boss. Lokido AS’ “Fearless Fortitude” stacks decrease the INT stat of the boss, so you can use him if you want to fight the boss in a more offensive way.
  4. When the boss splits into 4, make sure your team can deal enough damage to finish all 4 of them, as the amount of damage it does is painful, multiply by 4. It’s better if you use earth skills in AF that does damage to all enemies to make the process faster

        Recommended party members

  • Earth Attackers
  • Nagi OG/AS
  • Lokido AS
  • Tsubame
  • Toova (with maxed out manifest weapon)
  • Cerrine
  • Supporter/Healer
  • Myrus
  • Dunarith (The 100% critical buff is not necessary in this case, but his “Magic Cloak” skill, which allows him to heal M to all party members when hit with magical damage is pretty nice to have)
  • Mariel AS/OG
  • Yuna
  • Mana (By using “Queen of Hearts”, not only the boss will deal less damage due to the attacks all being magical attacks, but your party members get a big PWR boost too)

2

4

5

        Special effect

  • When the boss receives water damage, creates a fog surrounding itself that makes it invalid to physical attacks (not water element physical attack)
  • This can be removed if no water damage is dealt to the boss in a turn

        Strategy

  1. The boss’ weakness is water, yet when it receives water damage, it self buffs its water resistance for each water skill used against it. In addition, the boss will target twice in a turn when it receives water damage, so INT debuff is very important. Mana’s “Queen of Hearts” skill will be very useful if the water team is full of physical attackers.
  2. For turns 5n+1, the boss will inflict Confusion to your party members, but when water damage is received, it will have an additional attack at the end of turn, which removes Confusion as party members take damage, rendering the Confusion status to be trivial. However, INT debuff is still required to keep the damage taken to the minimum. Yuna AS with her Sacred Water Stance should make it much easier because of the Sacred Water Stance reducing fire damage by 50%
  3. If you want to finish this boss of with 1 full AF, provided that you can do 10 million AF damage, you can wait until the boss no longer has the water resistance buff before initiating, and to make sure to avoid doing so at turn 5n+1 as there is a chance that your party members will be inflicted with Confusion, which makes them unable to participate in AF
  4. Notice that the boss does not have any resistance against wind element, so you can totally go for the wind team if you’re confident that you are able to deal enough damage to the boss without any weakness bonuses (2x damage, 2x AF gauge fill)

4

5

Water physical attack to all party members

        Special effect

Gain 100% physical resistance buff at the end of turn

        Strategy

  1. Since Crab Bonze buffs itself with 100% physical resistance buff at the end of every turn, removing the buff with Mana’s “Midnight Cendrillon” skill proves to be futile, showing that you’re going to rely on magical-based attacks to deal damage to the boss, but then you came to a realise that Myrus and Toova are the only earth characters in the game that are staff users. What are you going to do when you’re limited to 2 attackers?
  2. Your earth mage characters are going to be your DPS for the boss battle, so you need to pick your physical attackers that are going to increase your mage character’s damage as much as possible. Nagi AS not only applies 50% earth resistance debuff at max stack, she can inflict Pain status effect, which can benefit when your mage characters are equipped with Pain Grasta (increase 30% damage when target is inflicted with Pain, stacks multiplicatively). You can also use Tsubame to increase earth’s attacks by 30% and apply 30% earth resistance debuff to the boss. Not only that, you can use Gariyu OG with his manifest weapon, as his “Explosion” skill can increase mages’ damage by 90% maximum (40% INT buff at max stack and 50% damage up to staff users)
  3. Physical attackers can also use their attacks to fill up AF during its initiation. Tsubame and Lokido AS are the optimal choice because they have a skill that does 3x earth attack, filling the gauge faster as a result
  4. Crab Bonze’s water attacks are very powerful, so debuffing both PWR and INT is necessary. Myrus’s Aqua Wall will be very useful in which it reduces 50% damage from the magic attack and 65% damage from the physical attack, but the PWR and INT debuff should also be applied to fully mitigate the damage from the boss

        Recommended party members

  • Earth Attackers
  • Toova (with maxed out manifest weapon) (Toova AS’ Underworld Lantern stacks’ additional attacks at end of turn are physical attacks that are INT dependent, so it does no damage towards the boss)
  • Gariyu OG (with maxed out manifest weapon)
  • Nagi AS
  • Lokido AS
  • Tsubame
  • Supporter/Healer
  • Myrus
  • Mariel OG/AS
  • Yuna

Thanks to Altema for providing me with the information of how to solve the puzzles for each of the bosses, along with the bosses’ attack patterns and the recommended characters for the boss. The images that I used are also gathered from Altema (except for the weapon images, which I screenshotted from my phone).

The tips for how to defeat the boss is a combination of both the information I gathered from Altema and my own experience when fighting the boss as a JP player, and the tips may or may not be helpful for you. As this is the first time I write a guide for Global players to refer to when doing this content, it would be great if you can give me comments on how I wrote this guide so I can make my next guide better.

Thank you very much :)
