Why is this election happening? Special elections are held when an elected official leaves office (resigns, retires, or dies) before their term is up. Former Representative George Santos of the Republican party was expelled from Congress on December 1, 2023. This special election will fill his seat in the House of Representatives.
Who can vote in this election? Registered voters in Congressional District 3 which includes parts of Northeastern Queens and Nassau County in Long Island.
