Activity 3.2 Naturalization Process and Federal Government's Role

In lesson 3.2 you were guided through the Naturalization process to becoming a citizen of the United States. Below, you will read about two small extension activities to apply your learning in Lesson 3.2.

Step 1. Rasha is a friend you’ve got to know over the past two years. She was a foreign exchange student at your high school and you now keep up on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. Rasha really enjoyed the United States and is now interested in moving here to become a U.S. citizen. Rasha’s English is ok, but she is very intelligent. She learns very well through pictures or diagrams. Draw her a picture or diagram explaining the steps to becoming a U.S. citizen as you learned about in Lesson 3.2. Your picture or diagram can be hand-drawn and photographed, or created digitally. You must upload the finished product, along with Step 2 found below, when complete.

Step 2. William has just moved here from Canada with his parents. All William knows is that his father “got a new job.” William is afraid he will be deported everytime he encounters a local police officer. Can you explain to William how immigration law is enforced in the United States? Write your explanation in paragraph format and upload it, along with Step 1 above, when complete.
