Short Book Description

Uncover Your One BIG Message® is Natsuyo's comprehensive guide to mastering the art of storytelling and leadership. This book provides practical strategies to enhance your communication and lead with confidence. Whether you're a seasoned executive or an emerging leader, Natsuyo's insights will help you articulate your message clearly and persuasively.

What You’ll Learn

Extended Book Description

Written by a non-native English-speaking professional speaker with over 25 years of international consulting experience, this book lays out a step-by-step process to improve cross-cultural communication skills and achieve a strong global presence.

This book is different from most cross-cultural communication books. Natsuyo breaks down the broad topic of “cross-cultural communication” from three practical angles, helping readers master 1:1 communications, 1:Many communications, and 1:Team communications, optimized for working in diverse work environments.

Every year, organizations lose money, time, and people due to poor or inefficient cross-cultural communication – and this can be as easily between departments or individuals within an organization as across oceans.

To tackle this widespread problem, Natsuyo N. Lipschutz, CSP, MBA, developed the 3-step process she calls the “3As” (Acknowledge, Analyze, Adapt), using a unique multilayered approach: cross-culture × logical thinking × storytelling.

Using the 3As process, readers will improve their awareness of cultural differences and learn analytical and logical thinking skills to zero in on their own unique message, tell persuasive stories, and ultimately get their messages not only clearly heard but acted upon in a culturally diverse global business environment. Natsuyo approaches this broad topic of “cross-cultural communication” from 3 practical angles - 1 to many communication (i.e. presentation to a diverse audience), diverse team communication, and 1-on-1 communication.

Filled with lessons and real-life stories from global companies and executives who benefited from Natsuyo’s guidance, this book will appeal to any business leader who needs to communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders, whether in a different country or a different team, to persuade and succeed.

Speaking / Content Topics

Speaker and author Natsuyo N. Lipschutz brings her own personal cross-cultural experience as a first-generation immigrant and non-native English-speaking professional speaker to these topics, as well as 20+ years of experience in consulting global companies across industries.

She’s also achieved the much-coveted Certified Speaking Professional (CSP®) designation, meaning she belongs to the top 17% of an elite group of professional speakers with a track record of success.

Her latest book, Uncover Your Message: The 3-Step Process for Presenting Your Ideas Effectively and Persuasively, Globally and Locally, will be released from Routledge in July of 2024.

Topic #1: How to Present to Global Audiences with Cultural Sensitivities

How can you deliver a presentation to a diverse, cross-cultural audience that is heard, understood, and acted upon?

In this article/engagement, Natsuyo will share experiences from her own storied career demonstrating how she navigated challenges and ensured audience understanding. Readers will learn the difference between high context and low context audiences, as well as how to know what to do and what not to do in their presentations to global audiences.

Topic #2: How to Give Effective Feedback to Someone from A Different Culture

Effective feedback can be a tremendous gift to team members who want to do better work and improve their skills. Delivering effective feedback that is understood, accepted, and acted upon is challenging enough—but what if you’re giving feedback to someone from a different culture than your own? In such situations it’s especially easy for the feedback to be misunderstood or misapplied.

In this article/engagement, Natsuyo will offer tips and advice to help readers navigate different cultural differences when sharing praise and/or constructive criticism.

Topic #3: Navigating and Resolving Conflicts Within Diverse Teams

Diverse teams can bring about remarkable outcomes in global organizations; however, differences can also lead to lots of misunderstandings, mistrust and conflict (either between two individuals or across the team).

A widely known remedy for conflict is active listening. This is solid advice—however, in the real world, active listening is rarely practiced in a way that actually resolves the conflict.

Drawing from her McKinsey strategy consulting experiences, Natsuyo will share the art of crafting and asking GOOD questions, which is how readers can actually put active listening to work, prompt other people’s thoughts (which is important on teams as well as when addressing individuals) and resolve conflicts that arise on diverse teams.
