Aims:

To learn about their city in the past

To get to know about life in the past and compare it with the present

To facilitate understanding through communication

To strengthen the relationship between the generations

To get to know the rich inner world of an older person

To create for the elder generation the comfort of being listened and understood

Note!

  1. Prepare the room for the meeting ahead of time. Put old pictures of the city and people from the time of the grandparents youth.
  2. Ask the grandparents to bring pictures from the photo album of their childhood and youth

Students and Grandparents watch a video of the city of their youth.

Reflection questions:

How did the streets look?

Did they look any different? In what way?

How did the people look?

How did the cars, busses and other means of transportation look?

Was there anything different from today?

Each grandparent presents his/her pictures. Chooses one to talk about.

Introducing the example of James Flanagan who wrote 18 pieces of advice for his grandchildren ask the grandparents to write/say a set of advice with their grandchildren.
