Huey Rey Fischer endorsed by University Democrats, dozens of student leaders

AUSTIN - Huey Rey Fischer, candidate for Texas House District 49, announced Monday the endorsements of the University Democrats as well as dozens of student leaders, organization officers, and campus organizers.

“The students are taking me to the Capitol!” said Fischer. “There isn’t a single legislator under the age of 30, even though millennials make up 25 percent of the electorate in Texas. This is our opportunity to change that.”

The campaign is building a program to turn out thousands of student voters. Fischer helped register over 4,000 students before the voter registration deadline on February 1 and his team has flyered student-oriented literature on thousands of doors throughout west and north campus. With the Democratic Party Presidential nominee undecided, the campaign expects a significant uptick in student turnout for the Texas primary this year.

The campaign is running a traditional field program in tandem with student outreach, having knocked on over 12,000 doors and called over 8,000 voters.
