Letter of Navajo/ Diné Solidarity with #BlackLivesMatter

We, as citizens of the Navajo Nation, stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter Movement. We stand against police brutality and demand justice for the murders of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Tony McDade, and many other Black lives that have been taken. In recent events, we have witnessed the ongoing injustices against the Black community by local and state police officers across, what is now known as, the United States of America.

The deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, Breonna Taylor, and countless other Black community members reveal undeniable systemic anti-Black racism embedded in the brutal actions instigated by police officers which has resulted in the murders of Black people.

The lack of accountability for these police officers highlights the consistent abuse of power that has long inflicted state-sanctioned pain and violence against the Black community.

Across more than 140 cities in the United States, protesters have demonstrated their support for the #BlackLivesMatter Movement and have been demanding justice for the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, Breonna Taylor, and many other Black Lives.  

Despite the global pandemic of COVID-19, and, unfortunately, having the highest rate of infection per capita, we, as people of the Navajo Nation, are in solidarity and support the #BlackLivesMatter movement and their Black-led and Black-organized demonstrations happening across the United States from our homes, homelands, and beyond.
