Great Teaching Ideas and Student Voice
Passionate about teaching? Committed to empowering your students? Do you have some great, innovative teaching ideas that you could share with the education community? AITSL is seeking to work with educators, collaborative groups and schools to develop initial content for the following new web-based platforms: Great Teaching Ideas and Student Voice. It is anticipated that these platforms will be ready to go live in late June and will eventually be populated by user-generated content. In order for this to happen we would like to provide funding for individuals or groups to develop some videos that will act as best-practice examples for the initial site population.
We would like participants to submit short videos relating to the below areas.
Great Teaching Ideas
Great Teaching Ideas should unpack a particular strategy or show how you implement a great idea in your classroom.
A Great Teaching Ideas video may relate to any of the following initial categories:
A Student Voice video may demonstrate:
Here are some examples from the Teaching Channel that can guide your understanding of what your videos might look like. Note that these videos have high production values and have been professionally edited - this is not expected of you but the overall content and format should assist in planning what you might like to capture and how:
Participant(s) may use a smartphone or similar digital recording device to film the video if other equipment isn’t readily available. Guidance on ‘best practice’ for filming can be found here: http://www.teacherfeature.aitsl.edu.au/help
Each video should be no more than three minutes in duration and file sizes should not exceed 50MB. For further technical guidance please see: http://www.teacherfeature.aitsl.edu.au/technical-information
Posting your video
Once your video is finalised please contact us via email and we can invite you into a Dropbox folder to download your video, or you can send us the video on a USB.
As this project aims to develop some conceptual models for Great Teaching Ideas and Student Voice videos and may require planning and collaboration outside of the classroom, AITSL is able provide each participant/group a small amount of funding to cover the following costs:
- Teacher relief
- Catering costs
- Administration costs
- Incidentals (e.g. if participants wish to collaborate and transport is required).
Up to $375 is available to individual participants should any costs be incurred.
If you would like to collaborate with colleagues and create a set of videos (4 or more), AITSL is able to cover costs up to $1500. Your school can invoice AITSL for this amount.
In using or accessing the Site or uploading any User Generated Content to the Site, you undertake to AITSL that you will not post videos or images of students or anyone else under the age of 18, without written parental consent. Acknowledgement of such consent processes must be provided with such video submissions.
The Great Teaching Ideas and Student Voice platforms will increase the functionality of our existing website, Teacher Feature (http://www.teacherfeature.aitsl.edu.au/). The purpose of these platforms is to enable great teaching ideas, innovative practices and associated resources to be shared amongst the profession. This will provide a voice for teachers and students by enabling them to share their experiences and thoughts about great teaching and learning.
AITSL encourages collaboration between networks and the sharing of ideas and resources. Where possible or appropriate, AITSL also encourages participants who are already familiar with our work to partner a teacher/school with no previous experience of working on AITSL projects. Sharing practices and ideas will stimulate discussion about 21st century teaching and learning, and promote the development of best practice.
It is intended that these videos will represent a variety of voices within the education community, and provide an opportunity for educators to interact and share, all while adding to the conversation about education in Australia.
