Away for the Day
No Cell Phones Allowed During Academic Day Overview
Students are encouraged not to bring cell phones or other electronic devices (including smartwatches and earbuds/air pods) to school.
If students choose to bring a cell phone/device to school, the expectations are as follows:
Cell phones, electronic devices, and earbuds/air pods will remain in student backpacks/lockers during the academic school day, including lunch.
- Students who need to be in contact with their family during the academic day are to ask permission to use one of our school phones. Parents are encouraged to contact our main office if a message needs to be relayed.
- Parents may call the main office to speak directly with their child. Private conversations will be allowed if needed.
- Students may email parents and vice versa if needed; however, students may not always have access to their emails.
- Students may visit the office if they need to contact parents or guardians.
- Students assume the risks of damage, theft, or loss when bringing a phone to school.
- Students may use their cell phones, and earbuds/air pods before and after the academic school day.
- Cell phone use is prohibited in the locker rooms or bathrooms.
- Earbuds/headphones may be allowed at designated times for instructional purposes on school-issued Chromebooks.
- Phone usage during lockdowns and fire drills is prohibited.
- Using a cell phone to record or take photos of staff members or other students is not allowed without permission.
- Cell phone guidelines for off-campus school activities (extracurriculars, field trips) will be individualized depending on the specific trip and activities. These expectations will be addressed at pre-trip meetings and/or on trip-specific permission slips.
- Any exceptions to the cell phone policy can only be made by the administration and must be approved beforehand.
Extenuating Circumstances:
- Students who use their cell phones to monitor a medical condition may have their cell phone with them at all times but must adhere to all other expectations of the cell phone policy.
- In the case of medical necessity, a student must have a health plan or prior approval.
