DEC: 8th
Dear Mr Laszlo
I have been an admirer of yours for a long time. Now I find that Mrs Laszlo has been kind enough to write to my wife asking us both to dine with you on the 20th. Will you not give me one day sooner? Won’t you and your wife come and dine at the Savoy? I am straining to get South to Nice and Egypt.
I am very much obliged indeed to Macfall[1] for bringing us together.
Any day will suit us for dinner. Will you establish any day you please. I understand that lunch is impossible. I should like you to see some primitives I have here.
Yours sincerely
Frank Harris.
[The following in German in the original in the artist’s hand] Habe schon geschrieben das wir es jezt nicht annehmen können und freuen uns beide am 20t bei uns zu sehen [translation: I’ve already written that we can’t accept this now and we are happy to see them both with us]
Editorial Note:
Harris’ multiple-volume memoir My Life and Loves was banned in many countries around the world for its sexual explicitness.
