News
Everyone who has opted-in will eventually get into the Beta
Quote from Aratil:
“There’s been a tremendous interest in Hearthstone – more than we could have ever anticipated! Beta keys have been primarily given out via opt-ins, and we have supplemented our opt-in keys with additional giveaways from supportive fansites, press, bloggers, and broadcasters to give you an idea of who to go to for additional, fun Hearthstone content in the future. However, we understand that there are many players still waiting for their chance to try the game; we know that waiting can be frustrating, and we thank you for your patience.
In the meantime, we wanted to update everyone that we have been aggressively increasing both the frequency and the quantity of our beta invites and we intend to invite every player that has opted-in to the Hearthstone beta into the Closed Beta Test before the game goes into open beta. Remember though, this is closed beta: You’ve seen that we’re still working on plucking out the pesky sprites, stabilizing the servers and implementing interesting incentives to keep Hearthstone an amazing experience that you want to keep coming back to. We’re going to be adding more and more people into the closed beta as we continue working on the aforementioned issues, and we will be working hard to get everyone that has opted-in into the Hearthstone Closed Beta Test soon.
Haven’t opted-in to the Hearthstone beta? Click here!”

Crafting Cards
By far the most emails and tweets we have received the past week have been asking for us to talk about and explain Disenchanting, Crafting, when to disenchant a card and what cards we would recommend crafting.
The Explanations
Crafting: In Hearthstone you cannot trade or buy specific cards. So say there is one card you absolutely have to have for a deck that your are building, you can craft that card.
You cannot craft Basic Cards. You will need to get all nine Heroes up to level 10 to unlock all of the Basic Cards currently available.
Dust: To craft a card in Hearthstone you have to pay that card’s cost in Dust.
Common Cards cost 40 Dust
Gold Commons cost 400 Dust
Rare Cards cost 100 Dust
Gold Rares cost 800 Dust
Epic Cards cost 400 Dust
Gold Epic Cards cost 1600 Dust
Legendary Cards cost 1600 Dust
Gold Legendary Cards cost 3200 Dust
Disenchant: To get Dust you will need to Disenchant Cards. If you aren’t a WoW player Disenchanting gets it’s name from the ability in World of Warcraft to destroy a piece of equipment to get materials for use in the Enchanting profession. In Hearthstone you destroy a card and get it’s worth in Dust.
Common Cards yield 5 Dust
Gold Commons yield 50 Dust
Rare Cards yield 20 Dust
Gold Rares yield 100 Dust
Epic Cards yield 100 Dust
Gold Epic Cards yield 400 Dust
Legendary Cards yield 400 Dust
Gold Legendary Cards yield 1600 Dust
Side Note: Arena runs also yield Dust as a reward.
The Questions
When should you disenchant a card?
What cards do we recommend making? What are some cards everyone should have?
Legendaries. What are our top picks if you’re looking to blow a lot of Dust?
Crazy Game Stories
Brian’s Story
If you have a good game story from the week this is the place to share it! =)
Also you’re the guest so we’re making you go first.
Garrett - Hearthstone Date Nights can be awkward
Didn’t have any completely sick games this week but I did lose straight-up to my girlfriend who recently got into the beta. I was legitimately trying to kick her ass too. I feel bad.
I think losing a game to a Mage Fireball makes me more angry than anything else in the game at the moment.
Jocelyn’s Story
I totally have the most kick ass story this week! This is on YouTube (at the 1 hour mark of the Jocelyn Plays Hearthstone - Leveling up the Ladder video), so you can actually go watch my reaction because I was streaming at the time. I was practicing with my Hunter deck so I can kick some Dills butt this Saturday. Against a druid, coined on turn one to get a trap out. Then pulled a Dire Wolf Alpha. Turn 3 played a random animal companion, got 3-4 with taunt, upped to 5-4 because it was next to the Dire Wolf. He attacked and had his Raid Leader returned to his hand and costing 2 more by my freezing trap. I then pulled my houndmaster, gave my Dire Wolf +2/+2 and taunt to make him a 4/4, did 9 damage to his hero, and HE CONCEDED! I WON ON TURN 4!!!!! In a ranked match! :D

By far the best Hearthstone podcast to date. Thanks to you all!
I've been playing since day one of the beta and I've tried a few different strategies for leveling decks after doing the starting quests and wanted to know if you guys had an opinion.
On my first play through I played all of the classes from 0 - 10 versus the Expert AI, then I spent $20 bucks on cards, then jumped into play mode.
After the wipe I decided to play all of my decks from 0 - 10 in ranked play mode, then use my refunded money to buy into Arena.
Since I suck at arena (5-3 being my best so far), I have found just straight up purchasing cards to be much more fun for my play style. However I also found that leveling my decks in ranked play has been super fun as well (though i think I may have messed up my MMR).
How did you guys level up your decks?

Hey guys,
Love the show. It is great for those of us who have never played a card game for more than a brief period! I had an idea for potential expansions for Hearthstone and I wanted to see what you thought.
I used to play the Warcraft TCG for a short time and never got to get into their ‘raiding’ format but thought it looked really fun. What do you guys think about having people cooperatively ‘queue’ for a raid and fight one of the many big bad bosses in the Warcraft Lore Universe? I figured you would have to use basic decks in order for it to work. What do you think?
Thanks for your opinions!

Note: Listener Luke sent in a very similar email to this as well.

Hello Garrett, Dills, and Jocelyn.
Just started listening to your podcast on the way to school, and I'm looking forward to new episodes!
I have a question if you wouldn't mind addressing it. Do you have any strategies for disenchanting and enchanting? I cannot for the life of me win/have fun playing as a warrior, so should I just disenchant all his cards and use the dust on my mage and priest (my mains)? Or does that just increase the likelihood of finding those cards in a deck again in the future and wasting the chance to get something better?
Keep up the good work guys!
Job's done,
Abelhawk
