Week 6 Study Guide

Positioned, Not Pursuing: When Favor Finds You

A Study on Ruth & Boaz

Primary Scripture: Ruth 2 (NIV, ESV, or NASB)

Lesson Focus

This week’s study explores how Ruth’s faithful positioning and godly character led her to encounter Boaz—not because she was searching for a relationship, but because she was walking in obedience. We will examine how God honors humility, diligence, and trust, and how His blessings often find us when we wait on Him.

Opening Prayer

Father God, open my heart and my understanding as I study Your Word. Teach me how to wait well, how to trust You deeply, and how to position myself in obedience so that Your will and blessings can unfold in my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Key Scripture Reading

📖 Ruth 2:1–13

Take time to read this passage slowly. If possible, read it in more than one translation and note what stands out to you.

Key Teaching Points

1. Ruth Was Positioned in Faith, Not Pursuit

Ruth did not seek attention, validation, or provision through manipulation or pursuit. She placed herself in a position of obedience and humility by working faithfully in the field.

📖 Ruth 2:2–3

2. Boaz Found Ruth While She Was Working

Boaz noticed Ruth because of her diligence, consistency, and character—not because she announced herself.

📖 Ruth 2:7

➡️ Character often speaks before opportunity arrives.

3. Ruth’s Character Preceded Her Favor

Ruth’s humility, work ethic, loyalty, and teachable spirit positioned her for favor and protection.

📖 Ruth 2:11–12

4. God’s Blessings Find Those Who Wait Well

Waiting is not passive—it is faithful obedience without anxiety. Ruth waited without bitterness and trusted God without striving.

Character Study: Ruth

Take time to reflect on Ruth’s qualities below and how they show up in your own life.

  • Humility
  • Faithfulness
  • Diligence
  • Teachability
  • Trust in God
  • Integrity

✍️ Reflection:
Which of these characteristics do you see most strongly in Ruth? Which one is God developing in you during this season?

Use these questions for journaling.

  1. What was Ruth’s physical and spiritual position when Boaz found her?
  2. Why do you think God allowed Ruth to be found while she was working and not resting?
  3. How does Ruth challenge the idea that we must pursue or force God’s promises?
  4. In what ways can striving or impatience interfere with God’s timing?
  5. How does Boaz’s response reflect God’s heart toward obedience and faithfulness?
  6. What does it look like to “wait well” in your current season?

Personal Reflection & Journaling

✍️ Answer the following honestly and prayerfully:

  • What “field” has God placed me in right now?
  • Am I being faithful in this season, even if it feels unseen?
  • Are there areas where I am striving instead of trusting?
  • What would it look like for me to release control and wait on the Lord?

Faith Activation Exercise

This week, intentionally practice faithful positioning:

Show up consistently in what God has already assigned you
Serve with humility, even if no one notices
Pray daily for a heart that trusts God’s timing
Resist the urge to chase outcomes God has not yet released

➡️ Remember: You don’t have to chase what God has already assigned to find you.

Memory Verse

📖 Ruth 2:12 (NIV)
“May the Lord repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.”

Closing Prayer

Lord, help me to remain faithful in the field You have placed me in. Teach me how to wait with trust, humility, and obedience. Align my heart with Your will and help me believe that as I honor You, You will bring every promise to pass in Your perfect time. In Jesus’ name, amen.
