Act for Gaza - Canada
An ongoing list of concrete actions Canadians can take to stand in solidarity with Palestine.
- Speak Out
- Contact your representatives to demand that Canada call for a ceasefire and a lifting of the siege.
***Call/email your representatives more than once; consider contacting them daily or every few days.
- Sign onto a petition or open letter.
For all Canadian residents:
For specific groups:
- Attend demonstrations in your area.
Protests are being organized across the country - find one in your area.
- Divest from institutions complicit in the occupation.
- Participate in collective actions at your workplace or school.
Follow local Palestinian organizing groups for collective actions in your city.
- Organize a direct action to apply pressure to governments and institutions.
- Demand action from your employer, school, or cultural institutions in your city.
- Challenge misinformation & media bias.
- Report hate and discrimination against Palestinians, Arabs, and/or Muslims (online or in person).
- Talk to your friends and family.
- At this point, the focus should be on getting everyone to understand that we are facing genocide and ethnic cleansing in this moment. The international community needs to apply pressure for an immediate ceasefire and public opinion matters.
- When the immediate crisis subsides, consider starting a reading/discussion group. Inform yourself and others on the history of Palestine, the role the international community continues to play, and how people around the world can stand in solidarity.
- Check out the resources listed below to educate yourself and others.
- Use any platform you have to encourage others to act.
Here are some tips for sharing content & using social media for activism:
- Demonstrate solidarity
- Hang Palestinian flags outside your home, on your car, etc.
- Wear a keffiyeh.
- Donate
The most impactful donations are for e-sims, which allow Gazans to communicate with each other and share updates online, as well as donations to help families flee.
- Purchase an e-sim for folks in Gaza
- Donate to a family trying to flee via Operation Olive Branch
- Medical aid to Gaza
→ It should be noted that very little aid is being allowed into Gaza. While the funds will be needed in the aftermath of the current crisis, Palestinians are currently asking for international pressure on Israel to stop the attacks, not monetary donations.
