My dear Marczi –

We will finally get home for “lunch” tomorrow morning – For Lucy^[2] – and me after almost four months away – and after a lot of living in hotels and a lot of expense, it will be very nice to be at home in our own bed. Unfortunately the last two weeks were rainy – and I was barely able to paint – the time was too short to paint – as much as I planned and I’m only bringing back a few sketches – I slept a lot and have given up smoking – and my heart has been much better in the last few days – I shall now try to sleep for an hour after lunch – standing up such a lot is exhausting – So far the sea has been completely calm – we dock in Plymouth tomorrow morning at 8 – and will be home by 3 in the afternoon. In the meantime, a lot of work has been done inside the house – and now the exterior

is being painted – which has to be done every three years. I had a lot of nice letters in Tangiers – including your letter – we were the guests of the Belgian Minister, Prince Cray – they were very kind – they saw us to the boat – we set off earlier than planned because the later boats were all booked. This is a small ship but it still has almost 400 (only first class) people on board – it came from India and the passengers are all British India officials with their families – going home for the holidays.^[3] I’ll have a lot to do when I get back to London – not just painting – but other things as well – and putting the boys’ affairs in order. Before I left, I received an interesting commission – to paint the portrait of England’s chief Egyptian archeologist for the University of London [6896] – an interesting old gentleman with a beard. I had a very touching reply from Bárczy to my letter of condolence – he thanked me for the wreath – he does not say a word about his wife – in his recent letters. In a separate letter he told me what to write to Gömbös, the Prime Minister,^[4] when I offer my portrait of Görgey to the nation [110815]

Holnap reggel “ebédre” végre otthon leszünk – Lucy - őt magam közel négy hónapi távollét után – s bizony a sok Hotel élet után sok kiadások után kedves lesz otthonunkba saját ágyunkban lehetni – Sajnos az utolso két hét esős volt – s alig voltam képes festeni – az idő rövid volt arra hogy fessek amint azt terveztem – csak egynehány vázlatot hozok magammal – sokat aludtam – s lemondtam a dohányzásról – s néhány nap óta a szívem sokkal jobban van – Bizony most azon leszek – hogy ebéd után egy órára lefekszem – a sok állás mi kimerít – Idáig a tenger teljesen csendes volt – holnap reggel 8 órára érkezünk Plymouthba – s delután 3 órakor leszünk otthon – közbe a házban belül sok munkát végeztek – s most a külső házat
