Richland Two Wifi Access
Never use your own user id and password on devices that are shared with others, such as class sets of iPads. See your TLC for assistance. You are liable for the misuse of your account.
All devices which connect to our network for Internet or other access are permissible only for academic and administrative purposes related to the business of this school district. Our network services are not available for strictly personal purposes.

- Any type of device not specifically listed in the sections below
- Any type of device not explicitly approved by the district

- Windows and Mac laptops
- Chromebooks
- Android and iOS tablets and phones

Limitations | - Each user is limited to three registered devices, excluding district owned and managed devices. This process is automatic.
- Personal devices have limited internal communications. This is an ‘Internet Only’ service. Internal services such as printing, file and application access are not available.
| - Most internal communications are disabled.
- Each device is individually limited to a maximum speed.
- All devices throughout the district are limited together at an aggregate maximum speed, meaning that all combined, guests may only use a certain amount of the district’s Internet bandwidth. This is why it’s important that staff and students not use this network for their own devices.
|
Device Specific Notes | - District owned devices should connect automatically. If not, contact support. Do not attempt to configure them.
- All mainstream, reasonably current personal devices which are permissible should work seamlessly. Operating system specific notes may be available below if any are notable.
| - Any permissible type of device should connect seamlessly with the correct password. There are no device configuration notes for this network.
- The password is case sensitive.
- The password may change, but we do not currently plan to change it frequently.
|
Windows Devices | - Only Windows 10 is permissible. Older versions are no longer supported by Microsoft, and may not connect seamlessly.
- Windows 10 should detect the network type, prompt for your network user id and password, and connect with no further configuration.
|
|
Apple Mac Devices | - All currently supported and up to date versions of Mac OSX should connect seamlessly by prompting only for your network user id and password, with no further configuration required.
|
|
Apple iOS Devices | - iPhones and iPads running up to date versions of iOS from Apple should connect, prompting only for your network user id and password, and also require that you ‘Trust’ the security certificate offered from the wifi network. You must trust the certificate to connect. Always carefully read on-screen prompts and pay attention to certificate names to ensure that they are legitimate, signed by a trusted certificate authority, and assigned to richland2.org only.
|
|
Android Devices | - Up to date Android devices connect seamlessly, but the connection form may vary depending on version and manufacturer.
- At a minimum, you will be prompted to enter your network user id (Identity) and password. The user id is just the first part - not the full email address.
- If your Android device prompt includes a field for ‘Domain’, you must enter this exactly: richland2.org
- If your Android device prompt includes a field regarding certificates, you must select the option that uses system certificates.
- Other fields are typically either auto-detected, locked, or not required, but there are many variations with Android.
|
|
Other Devices | - Other devices not specifically covered above are not permissible.

Connecting Shared Devices
Personal devices may not be shared with others. If you use your credentials to connect a device to the district network, and then share that device with another person, you are liable for any activities performed using your network account. Personal devices connected to the network are for your own personal use only.
Staff must not configure district owned devices to share with others, using their own network credentials to connect. Nearly all district owned devices are managed and configured to connect automatically. If you have to manually configure a district owned device to connect to wifi, you should stop and consult with your local technology person. In the past, we provided generic accounts that could be used to support district devices which were not capable of multi-user profile support. This is no longer supportable.
District Managed Devices
District Owned Device | How it is Configured |
Chromebook Managed Device | Chromebooks are enrolled and receive their wifi configuration through policy. You should never need to manually configure, or use your own credentials for connection to the district network from our Chromebooks. |
Windows Laptop or Desktop Managed Device | Windows 10 laptops and desktops are imaged, joined to our domain, and receive their wifi configuration through policy. You should never need to manually configure, or use your own credentials for connection to the district network from our Windows computers. |
Mac Laptop or Desktop Managed Device | Mac laptops and desktops *should* be joined to our domain and management system, and *should* receive wifi configuration through policy. However, management of Mac computers in our environment is relatively new, and many Macs in use are either too old, and should be retired, or were never configured for management. Do not use your own network credentials to configure district Mac computers for the network.
Do not use the guest network password to connect Mac computers to the network.
A properly managed Mac computer should connect automatically, and should allow network login using domain credentials just as our Windows computers do. If this is not the case, contact your local technology support person to have the Mac properly configured. |
iPad Managed Device | iPads are generally designed to be single user devices. In the past, iPads were manually configured using shared credentials, and there are likely some older iPads in circulation which are still configured this way. Those iPads will lose connectivity as soon as we disable those generic shared accounts.
Any district owned iPad must be purchased through the district, must be delivered, tagged and processed through the IT Department, and must be added to the iPad management system. If done properly, district iPads connect to the network automatically.
Do not use your own network credentials to configure district iPads for the network. Do not use the guest network password to connect iPads to the network.
Consult with your local technology person for assistance.
|
Android, Other Devices Not Managed | Any other type of district owned device not listed above must be individually evaluated to determine whether and how it may connect. Android devices and others are not automatically configurable by our management systems, and if permitted at all, need custom manual configuration.
Do not use your own network credentials to configure other devices for the network. Do not use the guest network password to connect other devices to the network.
Consult with your local technology person for assistance. |
