Guide to Thunder Breaker

Updated: v270 [Ride the Lightning]
This guide will cover all of the information you need to know to play Thunder Breaker. TB is a rather simple class with insane movement capabilities. The class functions with a “linking” system in which skills are queued up to be casted without any delay/timing. Gameplay involves alternating between two of your attack skills while squeezing in your other short cd attack skills off cd. Along with the best rush-type skill, you’re afforded a reactionary playstyle and some of the best lateral movement in the game. TB is a class with a low skill floor, somewhat high skill ceiling, and a lot of room for skill expression.
I heard TB is really mashy. Does it hurt to play?
Not at all. Despite being known as Finger Breaker or Wrist Breaker, such issues usually stem from more fundamental problems. To alleviate strain:
Can I use the in-game macro to combo instead of mashing two keys?
No. The in-game macro does not work for TB’s linking system.
Is TB strong?
TB has excellent dpm and a lot of tools to maintain uptime in a boss fight. Sixth job has done a lot to help round out TB’s kit with a better 2min burst, even better dpm, an overshield, and one of the strongest origins in the game. As such, you will need quite a bit of HEXA investment to really see the class shine damage-wise.
Is TB difficult? Is TB fun?
People often call TB a combo class, but its “combo” is merely alternating between two attacks. It’s extremely easy to pick up unlike actual combo classes like Cadena or Blaster. For some, that’s great news; for others who like more of a challenge, it might be a dealbreaker…Obviously try it out for yourself and make your own decision!
CD Hat?
Across all classes, CD hat has become more meta in recent times for QOL and min clear runs. Most TBs run -2s and 2L stat, but some still use 3L stat. If you’re casual, keep whichever you hit first. CDR affects Gale/Typhoon, Shark Torpedo, Lightning God Spear Strike (LGSS), and all of your burst buffs (including skill ring).
Linking: All skills can be linked smoothly one after another. If you opt to press the same skill back-to-back without linking, you will suffer heavy endlag between skill casts.
Name | Type | Description (bolded = recommended)
Elemental Shift | Movement | Your flash jump and up jump. Cannot be keybound.
Flash | Movement | A teleport that tracks to the closest enemy within a certain range. If there are no enemies in range, you will be teleported forward. - Ducking while casting prevents the attack portion of the skill from coming out if tping to a mob. - Depending on the size of the mob's hurtbox and your proximity to it, you may even find yourself tping backward.
Lightning Elemental | Buff | Stacking mechanic that accrues when linking or landing attacks on enemies (max 5 stacks). 45% ied & 20% dmg
Tidal Crash | Movement | Your rush skill that can be shortened. Great for quickly dodging while maintaining uptime. If you need to do anything other than TB things, press this and proceed to duck/jump/Phalanx Charge/etc.
Right click to toggle shortening action (Up to preference): OFF = press down arrow key ON = press skill key again
Sea Wave | Attack | Ball rolls across the map on a 12s cd. Great for clearing the bottom floor when grinding. Right click to lock: OFF = summons balls normally ON = no balls
Ascension | Movement | Propels you upward. Great after flash jumping to extend air time while maintaining momentum.
Thunder | Movement | A diagonal dive. Can only be used if high enough off of the ground. However, this height restriction can be bypassed as long as you’re linking from Ascension.
/ Shark Sweep | Movement | Garbage early job attack skills. Solely used for airstall tech when used with Ascension and Thunder.
/ HEXA Annihilate | Attack | Your main attack. Alternate it with Thunderbolt for your dpm combo. HEXA Annihilate applies a Lightning Brand.
/ HEXA Thunderbolt | Attack | Your other main attack. Alternate it with Annihilate for your dpm combo. HEXA Thunderbolt will become Thunder Slash every 6s which is bigger/stronger and creates a Sea Wave (the ball). Additionally improves Lightning Strike. Right click to lock: OFF = Thunder Slash will be used automatically by pressing Thunderbolt if off cd ON = Manually use Thunder Slash by holding the up arrow key and pressing Thunderbolt
lvl 140 Hyper | Burst Buff | Removes the cd on Gale/Typhoon for its duration. Lightning Elemental ied 45%→50%. CDs on Sea Wave, Shark Torpedo, LGSS lowered when linking.
Attack/Buff | Your low cd main attack. Grants a damage buff depending on your Lightning Elemental stacks (15% dmg). Alternate it with Annihilate during Primal Bolt’s duration for your burst combo. Only cast when at max lightning stacks.
Speed Infusion | Buff | Your only party support I guess. +2 attack speed. Your Zero friends will thank you.
lvl 160 Hyper | I-Frame | 45s cd i-frame that lasts 2-3s. Can be linked into, making it very responsive. Can be linked out of, allowing you to be fully actionable for those 2-3s of invincibility.
Attack | Your low cd main attack. Very little endlag even if not linking into anything after. Only cast when at max lightning stacks.
Attack | Short cd dpm V skill. Procs after 8 link attacks. Right click to lock: OFF = Press skill key to manually cast ON = Activates automatically
Attack | Your fat burst attack. Has 12 casts that you MASH back-to-back until all casts are gone. You should not link this with other skills. You do not hold down this key.
Phalanx Charge / HEXA Phalanx Charge | Attack | Your 1min mini burst that summons the chickens. A tad clunky because you can’t link into it. Pressing the skill key again while it is summoned changes its direction. Right click to lock: OFF = summons moving, slows down when reaching a target ON = summons stationary, press again to make it move, comes to a complete halt when reaching a target Hold down arrow key and press the skill key again to resummon it at your location. *Changes after unlocking HEXA Phalanx Charge:
| |
Empress Cygnus’s Blessing / Transcendent Cygnus’s Blessing | Buff | Burst buff that gives 72% damage for 45s. Only mentioning this here so people remember to talk to Neinheart in Moonbridge after concluding that questline to upgrade it to its Transcendent version which grants 5% damage reduction for the duration.
Thunder Bolt / Lightning Strike | Attack | HEXA Annihilate applies a Lightning Brand. Any other direct attack triggers a Thunder Bolt and consumes the brand. Origin, Shark Torpedo, Multistrike, Gale/Typhoon will instead trigger a stronger Lightning Strike. Thunder Bolt levels are tied to HEXA Annihilate.
Deep Reinforcement | Shield | Gain an overshield of 4% Max HP upon landing a linked attack capping out at a maximum of 15%. The shield decays over time, but should be easily maintained as long as you have good dpm uptime. Deep Reinforcement levels are tied to HEXA Sea Wave.
Thunder Wall Sea Wave (Origin) | Attack | Big damage. A lot of lines. If potato pc, your game may lag and freeze like crazy if multitargeting. |
Gale - Reinforce | |
Gale - Extra Strike | |
Thunderbolt - Extra Strike
Annihilate - Reinforce
Annihilate - Boss Rush |
Passive Skills: +1 |
Boss Damage: +10% |
+8% damage when attacking targets inflicted with Abnormal Status |
If you’re early in the game and lacking crit rate, feel free to swap out Xenon link for Lynn/Phantom link as needed.

RNG stat rolling system with each node consisting of one Main Stat and two Additional Stats. Each stat can be selected as a Main Stat once and as an Additional Stat twice across all 6 nodes. You cannot have the same stat selected as both a main and additional in the same node. The idea is to rearrange the stats in such a way as to gain the most of the higher value stats. For TBs, ATT > flat STR > Crit Dmg > Boss Dmg > Damage > IED. Because we only have access to 3 nodes at the moment, you will only be working with ATT, flat STR, and Crit Dmg in your setup.
Node | Level Req | Unlock Cost | Reset Cost |
I | 260 | 5 Sol Erda + 10 Frags | 10mil Mesos |

By linking Ascension with either Lightning Punch or Shark Sweep (up to preference), TB can stall in the air. However, Ascension’s height gain loses efficiency after a few uses. You can reset this by Thundering every 3-5 cycles.

Even just flash jump → Ascension is good. The flash jump → Ascension + Lightning Punch/Shark Sweep combo is great for covering great distances while airborne.
As your two fastest grounded movement options, linking them together is a no-brainer. You could just do it once for a snappy burst movement option. You could keep alternating them to traverse the whole map quickly (assuming no mobs are in the way to mess with your Flash targeting).
“Skating”
Similar to Blaster’s Bobbing/Weaving, TB’s Flash and Tidal Crash place your character 1 pixel above the ground at the end of their animation, allowing a flash jump input if you time it just right. More often than not you’ll accidentally perform this when you’re just trying to regular jump after a Tidal Crash. Just be careful and keep in mind that this can happen.
Duck TP
A regular duck tp can be performed simply by holding down and Flash. Additionally, if there are no mobs in front of you, you can input a crouching basic attack and press back+Flash during the attack animation to tp backward while facing the same direction.
Midair Tidal Crash Cancel
Some skills (namely Thunderbolt and Thunder) can have their endlag cancelled midair if you press Tidal Crash afterward. This had a niche use where you could more smoothly flash jump around while using Thunderbolt. In the case of Thunder, this allows you to more quickly descend from a high height.
As of 9/9/2026, the bug in which Sea Wave had an internal cd of 3s during Primal Bolt’s duration should be fixed, allowing the reduced cd effect to be applied properly.
