see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452082
---------------------------------------------------------------
Kindle Fire Utility v0.9.9 will download a TWRP version that is incompatible, with the update.zip
to fix KFU, download openrecovery-twrp-2.2.2.1-blaze.img, rename twrp.img
go to Kindle Fire Utility v0.9.9/Recovery folder delete or move twrp.img, and copy new twrp.img to that location.
run KFU's run.bat install TWRP, may need to reboot a couple of times
reboot to TWRP>Install>update.zip>uncheck zip file signature verification?>swipe to confirm flash
twrp will not say it's done, but when you see the home and other options, it has completed, you can wipe or reboot
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
before you root you should buy a Fastboot/Factory cable
TBH Factory Adaptor aka Fastboot Cable
You can buy from, but not limited to, these.
- Fastboot Motorola Factory Cable-ebay----
- Fastboot Motorola Factory Cable-Amazon
When used with a Kindle Fire 1, a fastboot cable will force the Kindle to boot into
Bootloader/fastboot mode so custom recovery and bootloader can be flashed.

[EMMC CORRUPTION FIX] HOW-TO Recover EMMC Bricked Kindle Fire 1st Gen [2013-08-20]
THIS IS FOR KINDLE FIRE 1ST GEN USERS WHO EXPERIENCED MMC CORRUPTION DUE TO UNFORESEEN CHANGES IN THE EARLY DEVELOPMENT OF THE 3.0 KERNEL.
which were running a CWM recovery built from the initial 3.0 kernel back in May 2012. That kernel was not patched for MMC_CAP_ERASE, and on our emmc chip it caused a wear levelling bug which basically made the device unusable. more here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1651413
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Reboot to TWRP recovery and see what version is installed, should be 2.7.0.0 or higher.
If you have older version you will need to up date.
Watch first 2 mins of video posted below to see how to reboot to TWRP.
2. Pick a rom, latest android version is KitKat/ 4.4 some KitKat roms are
Cm11, - CM11.0/SGT7, - SlimKat - PAC-man
They are all similar, features will very a little. I can't say which one will work best for you,
I'm currently using SlimKat. but Cm11 is a good rom to start with.
3. Download Rom and Gapps (Google Apps). Don't download 'OtterX' roms unless you follow
the Project OtterX instructions.
CM11: cm-11-20140609-SNAPSHOT-M7-otter.zip
KitKat Gapps: 20140105
4. Verify MD5 checksum for rom and gapps MD5 is posted on Rom/Gapps download pages.
see how to use checksum https://sites.google.com/site/sdshad...hash-checksums
5. Install rom and gapps in twrp recovery see how to install a rom on Kindle Fire
it's an older rom video, but steps are the same.
Install the Amazon app if you have purchased apps from Amazon.
