My Grandfather, Abraham Binstock, was the person responsible for bringing our entire family to this country from Europe.  Without him, we would not be alive today.  Grandpa died around the time of Chanukah 1978.  Every Chanukah, Reb Shlomo Carlebach, Zecher Tzaddik Livracha, would teach us the Torah of Reb Nachman of Breslov, that the candles we light on Chanukah are the only REAL consolation for the children of Israel.  From 1978 on, I and the entire family need more than ever to find consolation in the lights of Chanukah, as Grandpa’s passing left our world in real darkness.

As we seek consolation in the lights of Chanukah, we remember the great light that Grandpa kindled in our lives.

Grandpa’s luminous countenance radiated unmistakable sincerity.  I felt suffused with the warmth of unconditional love and acceptance that he proffered.  He was never too busy to listen or to care.

I have to borrow from the eulogy that was written for Reb Shlomo Carlebach.  It applies to Grandpa as well:

Grandpa, move closer, let me tell you something so deep, so awesome, it’s mumash a

gevald.

Grandpa, you were Tzaddik and a Gadol, a beautiful beacon of light in the darkness, a shining, radiant, celestial light, a light that gave us strength, a light that pierced the hidden places of broken shards and scattered sparks.

Grandpa, open your heart and listen to the deepest of the deep: You are the sweetest, Grandpa.

And, the Holiest.

Respectfully submitted,
