“The Illustrated London News” and “The Sketch.” We have received the above tastefully executed literary harbingers of Christmas, and they are in every way worthy of a firm which for many years has given full proof of its capacity to charm the eye and please the mind. The wealth of striking illustrations in these seasonable productions is supplemented by much good writing, and we have no doubt that they will have a ready sale. “The Illustrated London News” contains a thoughtful article dealing with typical British scenery, and is illustrated in such a way as to give point to the writer’s reflections. “The Legends of the Flowers,” “The glory of stained glass,” and a full page reproduction of Philip A. de Lazlo’s picture, “The Drawing Lesson” [11772] and “Japan under snow,” are among the artistic gems in this number. The chief literary feature is a long story by Blasco Ibanez, the popular Spanish novelist.
