Immigration Community Support (ICE Response, Mutual Aid, Rapid Response)

Many immigration-related roles are selected through the Immigration Community Support Form. If you check interests there, you do not need to sign up again elsewhere.

This includes opportunities such as:

  • Rapid response or on-call support
  • Delivering food, supplies, or essentials to people who are shut-in or afraid to leave home
  • Court accompaniment or ICE check-in accompaniment
  • ICE activity documentation or witnessing
  • Neighborhood or area point person
  • Core planning or coordination support related to immigration response

Peace Marshal & De-escalation Team

Peace marshals help keep protests and public actions calm, safe, and nonviolent. This role focuses on de-escalation, situational awareness, and supporting fellow participants.

Preparedness & Community Resilience Group

This group is led by Tony and Colleen LaMonica and it  focuses on helping our community prepare for disruptions, emergencies, and periods of instability by building shared knowledge, skills, and mutual support.

Volunteer efforts may include:

  • Food security planning and distribution
  • Medical readiness and first-aid support
  • Mental and emotional wellness support
  • Communication and coordination planning
  • Mutual aid and resource sharing
  • Education, training, and skill-building
  • Community safety and stability support

Community Garden Collaboration (with PATH)

Stark Indivisible partners with PATH on a community garden initiative focused on food security, sustainability, and community connection.

Ways to help may include:

  • Garden planning or coordination
  • Planting, tending, or harvesting
  • Distribution of produce within the community
  • Education around food access and sustainability

Voter Engagement & Get-Out-the-Vote (GOTV)

his work is about protecting democracy, strengthening civic participation, and making sure people are informed, engaged, and heard. While Indivisible is a nonpartisan organization, many of our members choose to support Democratic candidates because they believe those candidates best uphold democratic norms, civil rights, and the rule of law. Participation in any partisan activity is always optional.

There are many ways to get involved, regardless of party affiliation:

Nonpartisan and Civic-Focused Opportunities

  • Voter registration and voter education
  • Helping voters understand what’s on their full ballot
  • Get-Out-the-Vote efforts focused on turnout, not persuasion
  • Poll observing or election protection (where applicable)
  • Data entry or behind-the-scenes election support
  • Community outreach, tabling, or informational events

Optional Partisan Engagement (For Those Who Choose It)
Members who wish to actively support Democratic candidates may also participate in:

  • Phone banking or text banking
  • Literature drops or canvassing
  • Community events, fairs, and festivals
  • One-on-one voter conversations or door-to-door outreach

In Stark County, Karen Dhyanchand has been appointed as the Coordinator of Democratic Citizen Engagement. This role will encompass canvassing and expanded community outreach, including:

  • Encouraging local Democrats to become more involved in the community
  • Joining local organizations and attending public meetings
  • Hosting house parties
  • Staffing Democratic booths at fairs and festivals
  • Training volunteers to understand their entire ballot and speak confidently about candidates, whether in one-on-one conversations or while canvassing

Training sessions for volunteers will be offered in the coming months to ensure strong coordination with the Ohio Democratic Party and to prepare well in advance of the fall campaign.

Members who live in Summit County or other surrounding counties are encouraged to connect with their local county Democratic Party or aligned civic organizations for similar opportunities. If you’re unsure who to contact, Stark Indivisible can help connect you with the appropriate local or regional partners.

No matter where you live or how you choose to participate, the goal remains the same:
stronger communities, informed voters, and a functioning democracy.
