Stoke 3½ Longcliffe 4½ - 3rd Aug

A great day for golf; we welcomed Longcliffe to a nice sunny day, with a bit of breeze that kept us cool throughout. The course played well, although the baked fairways gave us an extra challenge. The closest to the pin was won by Chris Cockerton for Stoke and Alan Wain for Longcliffe, our strongest pair winning by 5/4 Chris Cockerton and David Cotton; the opposition said how well David played.  Longcliffe won by the same score as at Longcliffe last August

Thanks were given by their vice captain Rob Pollard for the hospitality and greens staff for their good work.

Peterborough Milton 6 Stoke 2  Thurs 30 July

In this game at Milton, our star players were Glyn Staines and Simon Hudson, winning 5&4. The other winners were Mark Gedge and Roger Marris 2&1; nearest the pin went to Steve Cullington and for Milton Tim Martin (Senior Captain) Unfortunately, the match was 6/2 to Milton, with six of our matches giving shots to the opposition, so it certainly didn’t go our way. The course tees and greens were in very good condition; however, the fairways were similar to our own, not helping when trying to keep the ball on the fairways, giving difficult shots to the greens. Thanks were given to the caterers and Greenstaff; in all we had a good day.

Summer Pairs Competition - 29th July

This year's Seniors Summer Pairs was played as a Single Round Competition.  The Format was Stokesomes.  A smaller field than usual, but some great golf was played.

The winners were as follows:

1st Place - Jonathon Roche/Greg Ewart - Nett 63 (Greg also won this competition last year when he was partnered by Alan Church).

2nd Place - Gary Skerritt/Arthur Wheeler - Nett 64

3rd Place - Mark Hunsley/Alan Dolby - Nett 65 on C/back

Stoke 4½  Worksop 3½     27 July

All had a great day; the weather was not too hot, just right. Although the course needs rain because the run-offs from the fairways are now causing problems, the greens were a little slower but still running true, and obviously need protecting from the ongoing heatwave.

Thanks were given by the Workshop secretary for the halfway beverages and the after-match dinner; the Worksop team gave us a close game, especially as six of the games were giving us shots on home territory, with most going to the 18th.

 As for the match the nearest the pins were John Hitchman for Stoke Rochford and Gerard Read for Worksop both receiving a pack of golf balls.  Best winners were John Hitchman & John Martindale by 3 & 2.
