A round of Bot Bans has gone down

Blizzard has made a short post this afternoon taking action against what they phrase as "several thousand" Hearthstone accounts found to be botting.

Reddit reports via images that this initial ban is only for three months, after which time botters get their accounts back with all their purchases intact, as the blog explains.

HS WC Groups and Casters announced

The player groups have been announced for Blizzcon's Hearthstone World Championships:

Casters for the tournament play the weekend before Blizzcon include Artosis, Frodan, Azael and Blizzard Team Five members Realz and Ben Brode.

For the tournament play during Blizzcon, casters include Gnimsh, Frodan, Amaz, Realz and ThatsAdmirable. Interviews with players will be hosted by DJWheat and Rachel "Seltzer" Quirico.

[note: it's interesting to see Hearthstone pro players taking casting duties so early in Hearthstone's eSports lifetime, especially compared to the timeline of how things developed compared to personalities in something like Starcraft - Tash]

How the Arena run went from last week’s draft

First 3 games played during last week’s aftershow. Patrons get the aftershow the same day as the regular podcast. The video will go up for everyone else later this week on Youtube.com/starcastshow.

Ended up going 5-3. Had some really tough losses. Other than the first loss which everyone can watch my fail at on the video, cause I don’t know how to use Venture Co. correctly.

One win I’d like to talk about. Specifically the turn I spent the longest on.

Against another Warrior it was Turn 5. He had just played an Arathi Weaponsmith. I had a 3/5 Unbound on board. I couldn’t decide whether to trade for the Weaponsmith with my Unbound or not. I ended up going aggro, Lava Bursting his face, and swinging for 4 with my buffed Unbound.

If you guys want to talk about the losses/analyze them here they are step by step

Second Loss Against a Warrior (went second)

Opening Hand: 2 Stormforged Axes, Rockbiter, and Hex.

Turn 2 Fiery Win Axe

Turn 2 Totem

Turn 3 Bloodsail Raider (5/3) + Dread Corsair (3/3 Taunt)

Turn 3 Unbound Elemental + Coin + Rockbiter to remove Corsair

Turn 4 Korkron Elite > removes Unbound leaving a 4/1 Elite swings for 5

Turn 4 Hex Raider

Turn 5 Arcanite Reaper

Turn 5 Venture Co

Turn 6 Defender of Argus on Elite giving him the 10 exact damage to kill me on turn 6. Fuck this game.

Third Loss Against a Rogue (went second)

Opening Hand: Stormpike Commando, Oasis Snapjaw, Dire Wolf Alpha, Forked Lightning, Coin, Lightning Bolt

        Turn 1 pass

Turn 1 Pass

        Turn 2 Pint-Sized Summoner

Turn 2 Healing Totem

Turn 3 Injured Blademaster, Removed healing Totem

Turn 3 Unbound, Coin + Forked. (1 health Blademaster)

Turn 4 Shiv, trades Blademaster for Unbound, Daggers up.

Turn 4 Healing Totem

Turn 5 Anub'ar Ambusher, Southsea Deckhand kills Healing Totem

Turn 5 Healing Totem, Hex Ambusher

Turn 6 Spectral Knight, Deckhand kills Healing Totem

Turn 6 Yeti, Stonesking Totem

Turn 7 Crazed Alchemist plus Evis to kill Yeti, Deckhand off totem, dagger face, Spectral Knight swings for 4. (25/30)

Turn 7 Commado off Deckhand, Bolt off Alchemist.

Turn 8 Thrallmar + Perditions Blade off Commando. Knight + Blade for 6 (19/30)

Turn 8 Kodo kills fucking Frog instead of Farseer. Healing Totem

Turn 8 Sun Cleric. 5/7 Knight kills Kodo. Farseer kills totem and face for 2. (17/30)

Turn 8 Al'Akir Knight down to 1. Kill Farseer. Bolt off Cleric.

Turn 9 Sprint, Evis off Al'Akir. Sgt. buffs KNight to 7 to face (8/30)

Turn 9 Stonesking Totem, Direwolf, Snapjaw. Crosses fingers.

Turn 10 Activated dick mode, Saps Stoneskin, Assassinate Snapjaw, Sap Wolf, Cold Blood, gloats and wins.

Crazy Game Stories

Morn - Random Decks FTW!

Howdy Clucksters!

So my buddy and I have begun playing random decks against each other and crazy fun times have ensued.

However, this is where it got crazy.

He had control most of the game, and I briefly took control to get him down to 5 health.

He then manages to clear my board, drop a Molten giant a couple other cheap minions and a Frostwolf Warlord.

I get some Spirit Wolves down and a Stoneclaw Totem, praying it would keep me alive just long enough to finish him off.

Out of cards, he happens to topdeck a Windspeaker on his Molten Giant, use his other minions to get through the taunts, and chunk 16 health off my face, putting me at 3 health.

And then I got a top deck I had completely forgot made it into this deck: Deathwing!

I start laughing my ass off and proceed to tell my buddy that he's going to hate me as I slam Deathwing on the board with an evil grin on my face.

I basked in the moment and gloated with him over vent before finally ending my turn.

He had already accepted his defeat and was telling me good game, when he suddenly cut his words short with a fit of laughter.

Next thing I see is a Reckless Rocketeer drop on the board, whip around my Deathwing, and finish me off.

Lesson learned: Games are never in the bag, sewed up, or over until someone reaches 0 health!

Love the show and keep up the great work!

Morn

Matt - It’s 50/50

He was a Warrior, I was a Mage. Board state: his side clear, my side sorcerer's apprentice and a mirror entity in play. We're both top decking. He plays Rag, I get a free Rag. His Rag hits my apprentice. I hit his face with a fireball my Rag kills his Rag. He plays a minion. I sheep and ping it, my Rag hits face. He Facelesses my Rag. His new Rag hits my face. I play Mirror Image. My free Rag kills his second Rag. He rage quits.

Emails

*Disclaimer from Joce: There were a few emails/tweets from people who didn't enjoy the Arena draft segment as well, but those generally focused on how it didn't work so well audio only. All the emails from people who liked it focused on how it improved their understanding of Arena/picking cards, which is why I only chose a positive email about the segment.*

Well met,

Just listened to #50 and wanted to mention how much I enjoyed the Arena Draft segment… it was very informative and educational, but I really appreciated the different points of view and arguments that each of you offered when drafting cards. There are countless vids of a single person arena drafting over a couple minutes simply stating which card is 'best', but having three seasoned players debate the merits of each card at each stage of the process was a refreshing take on Arena drafting.   I hope this is something that is added to each podcast, or at very least at some point you're willing to tackle the other classes to discuss the merits of their class cards in Arena.

That said, good luck Garrett! Hope you let us know how things worked out… even without any Firementals or Epileptic Seizure Storms.

PS - Thanks for all you three do to make our Mondays/Tuesdays a bit better… much appreciated!

Shawn

Hey guys, since obviously people at Blizzard listen your podcast I was hoping you could ask this very simple question.  Why do they not allow player to player chats in game (non-Battlenet friends)?  I am sure it would be simple to engineer since chatting to Battlenet friends is already turned on in game.

Being able to communicate with your opponent would add a sorely missing social aspect to the game.  Yes of course there will be d-bag Carl's that would do nothing but talk trash but that is easily remedied by a SQUELCH button like they already have for emotes.

Better yet, make it a game option, CHAT TO OPPONENTS, that can be turned on or off.  If you are interested in this additional level of communication it's there for you, if you prefer to not chat, turn it off.  It would be such an easy change that I don't understand why it isn't already in there.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this as well.  I know I would love to be able to communicate more with my opponents.

Bob

Hey Foul Fowls,

Great podcast last week! I know Hearthstone news is kinda slow right now, but keep up the good work.

So... I'm putting on my Jocelyn hat, 'cause I want to make a counter-argument (I'm not gonna lie -- the hat smells like maple syrup and kindness).

People are asking, "Why don't more classes have more weapons and spells? Or how about neutral weapons and spells?"

The response could be, "Because it forces each class to be played differently. If all classes had access to the same weapons and spells, decks would start feeling REALLY similar -- and probably start getting stale."

*QUICK -- GET AN RTS ANALOGY FOR GARRETT*  What's amazing about StarCraft? Three balanced races -- all played differently. What happens when you give each race access to the same tech? You get Age of Empires 2.

AOE2 was a fun game... but it ain't no StarCraft. Just sayin'.

What y'all think?

-- IronCarbon

P.S. I tried to think up a Hockey and Baseball analogy, but I got nothin'.
