• Theseus (Duke of Athens) and Hippolyta (Queen of Amazon) are getting married.
• Egeus (Hermia’s dad) wants Hermia to get married to Demetrius, but Hermia is in love with Lysander and wants to get married to Lysander.
• Egeus pleads with Theseus to help him get Hermia to marry Demetrius, if not, Hermia will become a nun or be killed.
• Hermia argues against him in the courtyard, they have a big fight and everyone leaves unhappy.
• Hermia and Lysander talk and agree to run away to the forest and elope, but Helena (Hermia’s best friend) overhears their conversation and tries to talk them out of it, she ends up failing in stopping them from going.
• Helena loves Demetrius and goes against what Hermia and Lysander told her to do (tell no one about it) and she tells Demetrius in hopes that Demetrius will love her and think she’s cool for telling him that piece of information.
• Demetrius still hates Helena, and he follows Hermia and Lysander into the woods. Helena does not want to be alone so she follows everyone into the woods.
• Meanwhile, in the woods, the fairy king and queen, Oberon and Titania are in the middle of a fight over an indian child and Oberon is fed up with Titania.
• Oberon tells his helper, Puck, to get the magic juice from a plant and put it in Titania’s eyes and get something ugly for her to fall in love with. The magic juice, when put into someone’s eyes, makes them fall in love with the first thing that they see.
• Puck goes into the forest and when he’s walking back, he sees the lovers, asleep, in different places. He decides to play a prank and he puts the magic juice in Lysander and Demetrius eyes.
• When Lysander and Demetrius wake up, the first thing they see is Helena, and they both fall in love with her. Hermia wakes up and sees both boys in love with Helena and gets mad. Helena and Hermia fight about that while Lysander and Demetrius fight over Helena.
• Puck separates them and prevents them from killing each other by getting them to fall asleep again.
• At the same time, there’s a group of men who are preparing to put on the play, Pyramus and Thisbe for Theseus and Hippolyta's wedding, but they haven’t practiced at all so they’re trying to practice in the woods.
• Nick Bottom, the main character in the play that they’re playing, is being petty about something so he goes off angry and he falls asleep under a tree.
• Puck somehow finds Nick and he decides that he should turn Nick into the ugly thing that Titania falls in love with, so he turns Nick so he would have a donkey’s head. Then he finds Titania and puts the magic juice in her eyes.
• Titania wakes up from her sleep and the first thing she sees is Nick. She falls in love with Nick while Oberon and Puck are laughing on the side.
• Puck eventually reverses the spell and Titania is not in love with Nick anymore and Nick is not a donkey anymore. Nick runs back to his acting group to tell them what happened to him, but they think he’s crazy.
• Puck also fixes the lovers problems after Oberon tells him to reverse the spells and Hermia and Lysander go back to loving each other and Helena and Demetrius are now also in love.
• Theseus gets worried about why the lovers are all gone and goes in the woods to find them. When he stumbles upon them, he suggests that they should all have a triple wedding together.
• They return to Athens and the people put on the play of Pyramus and Thisbe.
• Puck finishes the play by saying to the audience to remember it all as a dream.

Fairy: Titania

I want the costume to bring out and show all the power she has, being the queen and all. Also I imagine her to be really elegant because when she realised she was in love with Nick’s donkey form, she was really disgusted and kind of being petty about it. Her costume will be really modern and long because she’s really confident (being the queen) and going to own this dress.

The dress however, needs to be a contrast from all the green in the forest so I think I’ll make it a midnight black dress to capture people’s attention. Black also represents resistance and in my head, Titania is this super confident, hot headed fairy that’s not afraid of anything so whenever someone suggests something she doesn’t like, Titania resists and is like “No, get it away, I’m the queen, I don’t like it.” Black is such a standout color and so different from the normal “happy” colors which represents Titania’s personality (at least in my head) in which she’s just really rebellious and like the color of her dress, different from all the other queens. It’s also going to have a leather-ish feel in order to add a tomboy feel since I think she at least needs to be a little bit tomboy-ish in order to tolerate living with someone like Puck. I’ll have some props for her character like a crown, and a bag of arrows like Katniss (she’s a bit mischievous herself).
