Ingredients Overview

Some abilities require the use of ingredients beyond the common items that are represented by Silver Penny cost. These are termed Ingredients. These are

Without the ingredients (numbers are given within the ability) an attempt can not be made. The Ingredients will be used on the creation attempt.

Ingredients are gathered by individuals with journeyman and masters abilities in a wide range of skills (Alchemist, Astrologer, Armourer, Beastmaster, Ranger etc) well on adventure. Once gathered they are in turn, used as prerequisites for some abilities or some skills.

Some abilities and specialisation within a skill, may increase the number or the quality of an Ingredient at the time of gathering.

In addition to this some skills gain a bonus which will be detailed within the benefits section of the skill. For example Alchemist Benefits. Some skills such as Alchemists are able to automatically combine as follows: 12 Uncommon into 1 Rare ingredient. 12 Rare into 1 Fabled ingredient.

Record Keeping

Each character who finds and keeps Ingredients may keep a record of them for later use.

Examples from abilities within skills.

Below is an example of the foraging for Ingredients an Alchemist can engage in.

Foraging Ingredients (MD +30)

Alchemists forage and make use of things they find in the world. They can collect parts of a dead beast, ore or elements etc. This collection results in generic Ingredients which the alchemist can use later, and is required for many Journeymen and Master products. The GM should decide what the type is: Uncommon, Rare, or Fabled and the Amount and the time it takes to gather it.

The following specialisations assist.

The player should record when they have received these items, and get the GM to sign it off.

Example: An Alchemist kills four Basilisks. They GM says they collect “3 Rare” mystical eyes. They Alchemist with the 1st specialisation would get a bonus of +1 but the same type (which is Fabled) taking it to “4 Fabled”.

Here is an example of the sheet the player has to collect ingredients.
