Intro

(yes i'm writing this in comic sans)

Hello so if you’re reading this, that means you’re wanting to learn how to use the shader Moyo made (with small edits I did)

Anyways this shader is easy to use but kinda difficult to explain, but I'll do my best to organize this in a way that's not confusing.

Things you will need :D

The Shader

FaceForward Plugin (https://bowlroll.net/file/148050)

IkDiffusion (https://ux.getuploader.com/ikeno/download/53)

Genshin Impact Hair Lightmaps (these might be hard to get your hands on but if you’re using this effect, you probably already have them)

Lightmap Setup

  1. Open your light map in whichever art program you use (Im using SAI2) and flip it vertically if needed.

(this can be done with the regular hair texture sometimes. Depends on how light the hair is)

I recommend using Waifu2x to upscale the texture so it's the same size as the original hair texture.

  1. Grab your magic wand tool and select the highlights.
(the one in SAI lets me select any similar colors so selecting one highlight selects them all)
  2. Copy and paste them onto a separate layer and remove the rest of the lightmap layer.
  3. Add the original hair above the lightmap and set it to a clipping layer over the lightmap.
  4. Merge the layers and duplicate the highlight layer

Add a very slight gaussian blur to one of them.
(prevents this from happening)

  1. Merge your 2 highlight layers and save as a transparent png

Model Setup

  1. Open your Model in PMXE
  2. Create a duplicate of the hair material
  3. Apply the lightmap texture onto the duplicated hair material,

  1. Apply the SPA named (hair_s.bmp) onto the highlights

(Congration you now have the hair highlights on your model)

  1. Apply these toons where they belong

Hair goes on the hair, Face to the face, skin onto the skin, and sphere onto the clothes.

Feel free to use the PSD to change the color of the hair toon to match your model.

  1. Add these spas if you need them.

Metal is for metallic objects while shine is for shiny objects (duh)

You might need to separate any metalic parts on a model with UV Editor. It's a pain but it's worth it.

  1. Use the FaceForward plugin on the model

Select the face, run the plugin, and put in “50%” in the box.

  1. Add Edgelines to your model. (reference the ingame model’s edgeline colors for accuracy)

Recommendation: Separate the inner vertices for the eyes so the edgeline isn’t on the eyelids.  (Most genshin models will already have this done for you.)

YAAY YOU DID IIT :D

Now time for the mmd stuff (this is the easy part)

  1. Load your model into MMD

  1. Turn off the shadow on the model.

  1. Apply the shaders to their proper places (No Rim is for the face materials that aren't the skin or anything you don't want the rim light on)

Your model should look like this now.

Next load in IkDiffusion2 and change

Si to 1.8 and Tr to .5

Boom you’re done

Adjust the lighting to your liking and add any other effects.
:D Have fun.
