New Information
- Spring has sprung at University Park! You may have noticed the beautiful flowers around campus - including the amazing rose garden. Please respect all the work that has gone into making everything gorgeous and DO NOT PICK the flowers.
- Something exciting is happening - our community partners are calling and letting us know about opportunities for our students to get out there and do internships, job shadows, and volunteer - BUT they are requiring that we verify that you are COVID Vaccinated. If you would like to be eligible for these opportunities, please bring your COVID Vaccination Card to Mrs. Areida or the front office so we can make a copy of it for your file. If you sign up for an opportunity that requires a COVID Vaccination, we will need to share this information with our community partner. Remember, this is completely voluntary and NOT a requirement of coming to school, only a requirement to attend MOST work based learning opportunities. If you have any questions, let Mrs. Areida know!
- As most of you know, HelperHelper gets updated every time grades come out. You are placed on one of two "teams" - HCA Class of xxxx or HCA NE List. If you are placed on the HCA NE List - this means that you will have limited opportunities showing in your HelperHelper. This is due to the fact that you may have had Ds and Fs on your report card, or have chronic absenteeism. This list will be re-evaluated after Term 2, Semester 2 grades are posted in May.
- In order to find out which list you are on, you can follow these steps:
- Open your HelperHelper app
- Click on the Menu button in the upper left hand corner
- Click on Team Impacts
- Look at the middle of the screen where it says "Member of". If it says "HCA NE List", work on getting your grades and/or attendance back on track so you have access to all the opportunities in the future.
- Keep an eye on HelperHelper! New stuff is being added almost daily!
- PandemicProfessors.org - Are you needing extra help in any of your classes? Check out www.PandemicProfessors.org. This free service is available to kindergarten through 12th graders for any subject needed. The tutors are college students who are wanting to help out others who are struggling during this pandemic. Reach out today! (This opportunity was brought to us by Marlene Andrade, HCA Class of 2016 who works for Pandemic Professors!)
- Perry Virtual Experience has various workshops that you can sign up for and attend - some you hear from professionals in the health industry. Additional information can be found on their website: https://perryinitiative.org/pve/ Women in high school and college who have an interest in science, medicine and/or engineering are now invited to register for a session of the Perry Virtual Experience. Fill out the online registration for one session that best fits your schedule (also, let Mrs. Areida know if you sign up!). Most sessions are available to participants in any location, but some sessions are for a focused geographic area. Dates and details for each session can be found at https://perryinitiative.org/calendar/

- If you have a job, you are required to have a Work Permit! You will need to follow ALL the procedures found at our HCA Work Permit Page. If you have any questions, ask Mrs. Areida (MaxineAreida@stocktonusd.net or text at 209-407-2995)
- Make sure that you are checking Jupiter for important messages and opportunities! If you or your parent cannot access Jupiter, please email MaxineAreida@stocktonusd.net (students) and HZeller@stocktonusd.net (parents).
Need Help?
- If you need to schedule an appointment with Mrs. Areida regarding Work Permits, technology issues, internships, externships, or any other work based learning activity, please do so by using this link. Do NOT schedule an appointment during your class time, please schedule for after or before school, or during PRN.

Work Based Learning
- Get your TB Test completed and results turned in to Mrs. Areida ASAP! We are hoping to have opportunities for Job Shadows for Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors but the only way you can participate is to have your TB Test completed. For some, you need your updated shot record too! Turn those things in to Mrs. Areida and she will get you set up with a Job Shadow. TB Tests need to be redone every year.
- All Health Care facilities are mandated that their workers are COVID 19 Vaccinated and Boosted. This is also trickling down for their volunteers and student work based learning programs (internships/job shadows/etc). Get your COVID 19 Vaccination completed and turn in a copy of your card to Mrs. Areida so that you can be eligible for upcoming Work Based Learning opportunities.
- If you have a job, you also need a Work Permit. It’s against the law for a minor to work without a Work Permit in California. Work permits must be obtained at the start of a new job and renewed at the start of each new school year. If you are interested in finding a job, Mrs. Areida can assist you with job leads, creating a resume, and developing the skills you need to get and keep a job. If you need to renew your work permit or would like more information about Work Experience Education, stop by the main office to see Mrs. Areida before school, during lunch or after school. Don’t wait until the last minute. It takes 24 to 48 hours to process a work permit. All Work Permit information can be found here.
- Make sure that you are checking HelperHelper before you head to an event. Some events change the number of volunteers needed and we have to cancel some volunteers. Please check to make sure it’s still in your commitments BEFORE you leave to go to the event. REMINDER - You can check HelperHelper on a computer, but you have to go to app.helperhelper.com to do that!
- Here at HCA you have the opportunity to earn Industry Certifications - becoming Red Cross Certified, HIPAA Certification, Medical Assistant Certification etc....This can now go on your transcript! If you have become industry certified and received a card/certificate with the certification expiration and number, please fill out this form. If you have any questions, please talk to Bolthouse, Edmond, Ramirez or Areida.
