The children will explore senses of sight, smell, touch, and sound by observing objects in the environment. 

 What do you use your senses for? (Explore) 

  1. Display poster board on animal patterns.
  2. Have the children predict what the poster board is all about.
  3. Have the children observe each picture.
  4. Discuss patterns.
  5. Ask: What patterns do they see in in the classroom?
  6. Help the children identify patterns on the clothing, books, walls. furniture.
  7. Point out that when they look at a pattern, they are using their eyes.
  8. Ask: What else do you see in the classroom?
  9. Expand conversation about the senses. Say: You use your eyes to see. What do you do with your nose?
  10. Have the children identify the sense of smell, name variety of fragrant items such as flowers, cookies, garbage, and so on.
  11. Have the children use descriptive words to tell to tell each smell.
  12. Repeat procedure for the senses hearing, tasting, and touch.
  13. Explain to the children that when they see, hear, touch, taste, and smell something, they are using their senses to observe.
  14. Ask: What do you use your senses for? (Explore)
  15. Have the children fill in blanks  and motion along as I say: I see with my ______. Repeat sentence with other senses.

  6. Have the children match the pattern pieces to the cat and glue in place.
  7. Have the children fill in blanks  and motion along as I say: I see with my ______. Repeat with other senses.
