Dear and esteemed Friend,
Many thanks for your kind letter which has just arrived, the passage in which pertaining to the royal couple we were – alas – already aware of from your telegram. Forgive us for not being adequately informed. We are delighted to hear, and to see from your letter, that you are to paint the Prince of Wales.[1] We would be extremely pleased if this work could also be put at our disposal to publish.
The Prince of Wales spent almost five days with us and enjoyed himself greatly. The only error was something caused by an excess of caution on the part of the police: we were not permitted to photograph him. However, we did manage to find some photographic material which we used

today to bring out a special English edition, which I am making so bold as to send you alongside this. We are infinitely delighted that the time is drawing nigh when we will be able to receive you both here in Budapest.
Somebody mentioned to me that a few years ago a large-format album appeared containing colour reproductions of your works. If we could get our hands on a copy of this, it would provide us with a much better basis from which to delve into your wonderful art than what we have had hitherto. And if the pictures are as big as the colour images we publish, then we could use them to make further reproductions.
Many cordial greetings, until we see each other,
Yours truly,
László Siklóssy

[1] Edward Albert Christian George, Prince of Wales; later King Edward VIII of Great Britain, other title The Duke of Windsor (1894–1972). Later that year, de László noted in his diary, “Sir Lynden – spoke to me about the prince of Wales’ portrait for the Middle Tempel [sic] – which They wish to have painted by me – I do hope it will come off – as he is very reluctant to give sittings for portraits”, see DLA125-0005, Philip de László, June–November 1935 diary, 17 July entry.
