2013 Popsicle Bridge Competition Rules

Materials:

• 100 Popsicle sticks (provided)
• White glue (provided)
• NO other materials may be used (no additional glue, no substitute glues, no additional popsicle sticks, no substitute)

Dimensions (see diagram)

• Min width: 40mm
• Max Height: 300mm
• Span: 420-500mm
• Bridge must span 400mm gap
• Bridge must be able to support its own weight

BRIDGES NOT MEETING THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

Competition Rules

• Cellphones/computers MUST be OFF during competition. (Teams will be disqualified if they don’t use them!)
• No outside help during competition
• Bridges must be built by only utilizing the popsicle sticks, glue and twine that are provided (please do not bring ‘extra’ supplies)
• Final registration is 12:30pm, April 5th 2013
• All teams must stop building by 4:20pm

Testing Equipment:

To load and test the bridge, various weights will be placed on the bridge. To fit all the weights needed, the bridge must have a open decking at least 30mm wide.

Disclaimer

        All the bridges will be destroyed during the testing process. Due to the nature of competition this is unavoidable.
