Mesquite Tournament 2015
Day one Hi-Lites:
Double play in the 3rd by Garry Russell. Howard Gehring had a 3 run triple in the 3rd. Gord Diebert, on the ground, was looking for a ball trapped underneath him. He attempted to make a throw to 2nd while laying on his back. Great effort on his part. He also hit a single home run in the 5th.
While rounding 2nd, Ken Zollner blew a tire, but was able to make it safely to 3rd. Fancy pick-up by Em and a great through to 1st. Garry Russell fumbled, was able to recover to Gord, who also fumbled, but still made the out. Tough moment in the field as a easy grounder went through Emerson, and then through Howard. As a result the ball made it to the fence, which resulted in a home run. Larry Lutz had a mighty swing, though the ball only made it 5 feet from the base. He was able to run it out, with blinding speed is the rumour, and make it to first. David Schauf came up with a great catch.
Harvie Moch, Pitching for Team 70, made 2 great plays. As balls were hit back to him he was able to make the plays to first. Emerson hit a 3 run double.
Jim Christman gloves a ball at third, but when he went to make a play to 2nd, no one was there so he threw the ball to 1st. Clint missed the catch, but stayed with the play and through the ball to home plate. David Schauf made the catch for the out. Jim Christman hit a triple in the 5th. The 6th was a open inning. Both Stan Rath and Larry Lutz hit 2 run, in the park home runs.
The team played their hearts out on this one. It started with Howard Gehring getting a Grand Slam in the first. In the 5th Emerson had one bounce over the fence for a double. In the end though the team just came up a bit short, and could not pull off the victory. In all the the team had a Great tournament and came away with Silver. Congratulations.
