A lot of people at the borders are offering rides and offering shelter but not everyone is who they say they are. Nothing is 100% foolproof but these things can help:

1) Never give a passport or identity documents to anyone other than a border guard. I recommend carrying it in your bra. Take a picture of it with your phone so if you lose it but still have your phone, you have a copy. Send that copy to friends/family/email to yourself.

2) If you're traveling in taxis/buses/whatever transport, update a family or friend of your location along the way. If something seems suspicious then get out immediately. BEFORE YOU GET IN TAKE A PICTURE OF THE LICENSE AND THE DRIVER'S ID AND SEND IT TO FRIENDS/FAMILY. If any driver doesn't allow this then don't get in.

3) Carry cash somewhere hidden on you, maybe even in multiple places. Assume any bag or luggage with you may have to be left behind at some point. Memorize your credit card/debit card number.

4) Memorize phone numbers for multiple trustworthy people who would wire you money/help you if you really need it and you lose your phone.

5) Develop a code word with your friends and family so that if you are in danger and cannot say that, they know what it means. They should already have the license plate and driver ID of who you are with and current location.

6) If you get to a place to stay and you do not feel safe, then don't stay.

If you are trying to help someone leaving Ukraine, get yourself prepped on how Western Union/Venmo/whatever money transfer service you need to use works before you actually need it. Setting up those accounts take time you don't want to be messing with that when they desperately need $50.

IMPORTANT INFO REGARDING TRANS*WOMEN WITH ‘M’ (MALE GENDER) IN PASSPORT:

For trans people with "male" in their papers, there is currently - officially - no way to leave Ukraine unless they have a medical certificate proving that they are non-eligible for the army (or the so called beliy bilet). However, there have been known cases of people still managing to cross the border. If anyone hears of more such cases, please send the info to Anna Anna.kirey@rfsl.se.

Information for trans*people crossing borders:

  1. try to get to the Polish border, massive trans*violence is reported from the Slovakian border!
  2. Update March 8: all checkpoints are open at night, with less people in the queues and less waiting time.
  3. wear a face-mask (covid-mask), show other identification documents than your passport (like student ID) where female gender is listed (this goes out especially to trans*women)
  4. Direct contact for help at the border:

March 3, 2022:

🏳️‍🌈IMPORANT UPDATE FROM MEETING OF CZ/SK LGBTQIA+ NGOs:🏳️‍🌈

1) 🏳️‍⚧️Trans*parent, Prague Pride and Prizma (Slovakia)🏳️‍⚧️ can together offer: Transport, living spaces (60 beds only in Slovakia, many more in CZ), medical care (currently also have 4 sexuologists), social, psychological and legal help. For queer people in CZ or SK - DM me, will forward you.

2) On the Ukrainian side of the UA/SK border 💎RSFL💎 is doing work to help queer people. But they are extremely busy and have low capacity. Tonight I will have more info of what and who they need. So I might be asking for volunteers later.

3) 🇸🇮SK/UA🇺🇦 border has been successfully crossed so far by only trans* men with f64, we dont know of any trans* women. If you know any trans* people who want to cross there, please, DM me.

4) Reports of trans* women being able to cross the Polish border by "loosing" their passports and passing as cis women without documents are ♥️confirmed 100%♥️. Mask, heavy makeup, "feminine" clothing, hat, etc. They provided border officers with false name of mom, aunt, etc. In Ukraine there is no internet centralized system, so they have no way of checking it. Yet, this is still very dangerous. Please advise any trans* people to go to queer friendly shelters in Ukraine. From there we can make some organised large scale help/transport.

5) We are in contact and communicating with: Vice chairman of 🇪🇺European Parliament Michal Šimečka🇪🇺, members of European Parliament, head of immigration office in Slovakia and other European organisations. Pressuring them to do something. Pride/Trans*parent/Prizma will be present at the big NGO meeting tomorrow.

6) VERY IMPORTANT: Trans*parent/Prague Pride/Prizma and other organisations are planning larger 🚅trans* people transports🚅. I cant disclose more right now and it will take some time to organise (think weeks, rather than days) But please, if you would know of any women trying to flee, who do not have a concrete plan yet, DM ME! We need to shelter them in queer friendly spaces.

X) 📣📣📣We are still very much looking for any queer friendly people, who could provide transport INSIDE Ukraine from cities to queer shelters in Lvov and other cities.📣📣📣

Update from March 8, 2022:

1) There is a paper you get at the commisariat/voyenkomat, if they deem you unfit for duty (ie. when you show them your f64)

2) You cannot get through the border with just f64. Or you might, but its risky. You need to go to the comisariat first.

3) The document you get for f64 diagnosis issued by the City Army commisariat has 2 possible options on it:

(a) completely exempt from duty

or

(b) partially exempt

The option the doctor chooses is underlined. It has to be (a) for the person to be able to leave the country.

There is the possibility of getting drafted, when you go to the voyenkomat/commisarat. There's conflicting info about it. When you can manage, maybe don't go alone.

There supposed to be LGBTIQ Shelters in Uschhorod, Tscherniwzy or Lwiw. Contact to the shelters via Insight NGO: https://t.me/ngoinsight_bot

Information regarding documents (info from Insight (Lviv and Chernivtsi shelter)

1) They also have the info that nobody is checking people for documents. So they say that the best option is to hide your passport and ID somewhere on the body.

2) If somebody does not feel comfortable with that or is too afraid, they can leave the documents with coordinators in the shelters. Im now waiting for names of the passport guardians in each shelter.

Information for Jewish refugees from Ukraine

Telegram Group: opon request (Telegram

Important information for Jewish refugees from Ukraine!!!

There is information that the Central Council of Jews negotiated with the federal government that Jews from Ukraine can apply to Germany as "Jewish immigrants"! Normally, this application can only be made in the country of origin and there are certain conditions (integration prognosis, language skills, etc.) that must be met.  Due to the current crisis, these conditions are suspended.

 1. Jews from Ukraine and their direct family members can apply for Jewish immigration in Germany.

 2. Original papers must be presented that prove the Jewish origin (paternal side is also sufficient).

 3. No conditions have to be met in relation to language skills or the like.

 4. After the documents have been checked, you will receive a permanent residence permit, which goes hand in hand with a work permit and entitlement to financial benefits (basic security, health insurance, etc.). You can choose your place of residence within Germany.

 5. An application as an expellee according to Section 24 of the Residence Act (like all expellees from the Ukraine) is harmless for the “Jewish procedure”. This way you get a work permit, health insurance and social benefits etc.

All formalities are currently being prepared by the Central Council of Jews and the authorities, so that an application can be submitted in the next few weeks! The regulation probably also applies to people who have already submitted an application in Urkaine and are now here!  Where and how the applications are to be submitted will probably be clarified in the next few days!
