The purpose of this guide is to equip the citizens of Pueblo with up to date information on food availability while our community undertakes COVID-19 precautionary measures.  Together we are facing a challenge. At times the threat of this virus can cause anxiety for anyone. However, in times like these, the best thing we can do for ourselves and each other is to stay calm, kind, and informed. We are making every effort to provide accurate, clear, complete information for you here so you feel ready to make  good decisions for your food needs.  This guide is being updated regularly by the Pueblo Food Project.

SRDA - PUEBLO COUNTY COMMODITIES
Please note SRDA services are specifically for the senior citizens (60+) of our community.


All congregate meals provided by SRDA are cancelled.  PICK UP, TO-GO MEALS ARE AVAILABLE.

Pick-up meals are available at the following sites:

  • In partnership with LaGrees and Pueblo County Commodities clients will be offered 5 frozen meals to pick up on Fridays 1:00 PM - 3:30 PM at 2631 E 4th. *Must have ID. Call 719-543-0100 to get started.
  • Joseph Edwards downtown, M thru F, 11:30 AM -12:30 PM
  • Mesa Towers, M thru F, 11:30 AM -12:30 PM
  • Mineral Palace Towers, M thru F, 11:30 AM -12:30 PM
  • Pueblo Grande Mobile Home Village at 999 Fortino Blvd. ONLY M, W, F 11:30 AM-12:30 PM.
  • All other SRDA congregate meal sites are closed and delivery options are available to impacted residents; you should have already been contacted bySRDA team.
  • Free Meals are also available to seniors at school locations participating in the Emergency Student Feeding Program.  See our section on school meals for more details.

MEALS ON WHEELS
The Meals on Wheels Program requires registration both for participation and to be a volunteer.

The Meals on Wheels program is operating as normal.  
Meals are delivered between 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM, 7 days a week.

DISTRICT 70 MEAL PLANS FOR STUDENTS

Any student under the age of 19 will receive two free lunches and two breakfasts with each meal bag. Parents or Guardians can purchase a meal bag for $6.00 at curbside pick-up location only. (Adults over 60 years old can receive a free meal if picking up food for grandchildren)

COMMODITY SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD PROGRAM for CITIZENS 60+ (CSFP)
Commodities are available to senior citizens who are on limited income.  You must register for the program but registration is open and can be approved real-time. Registration  and distributions are being taken via a drive through system.  To register you need:

Find Love for Legumes

It is a perfect time to enjoy that bag of split peas you have in your pantry.  Soak your legumes and cook them slow and low in a crock pot, are at a boil on the stove.  Add your favorite flavors like onion, garlic, bay leaf, oregano, and little bit of oil.  You can eat them as a side or add more ingredients to make it a soup. Garden Time

Garden starter plants from We Are FARMily

Local non-profit We Are FARMily, is planting 100s of fruit and vegetable seeds, to help get your garden started.  Once the seed germinate and become strong enough to transplant they will be available for pick-up at no cost.  We will update you on progress, this will take about 2 - 3 weeks.  www.wearefarmily.org/

Join a CSA

Community supported agriculture is a great way to know first hand where your food comes from AND avoid the grocery store.  CSAs provide fresh produce, eggs, and cheese, to members for the entire growing season.  Pueblo has a CSA that runs from June - October.  Pick-ups are at El Pueblo Museum on Tuesdays. A NOTE TO FOOD BUSINESSES

We will be developing another resource guide that will explore programs available to food related businesses during this very challenging time.  Our focus will be finding resources that offer economic benefit to your operation.  As well as tracking policies at the state and federal level that may have an impact on the food system sector.  Below is some preliminary information from SBDC.

SOUTHERN COLORADO SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTER

1.   Assess your resources and see what is available to you.

2.   Take steps now to prepare yourself.

3.   Work with your current bank, possibly line of credit.

4.   Review your insurance for Disruption of Business.

5.   Information may be available next week through the Governor’s office and SBA offices

      Emergency Disaster Relief Loans.

6.   SBA loans will require financial stability prior to the current situation.
