[Illegible embossed address]
March 31st 1925
Dear Sir,
In further reply to your letter of the 17th inst, we had a Committee Meeting the end of last week, and it was decided that as we had not sufficient funds the question of a Replica [after 2507] must be postponed at any rate
[Page 2]
for the present.[1]
Sir John Sankey[2] was going to communicate with Mr de Laszlo.
I will keep your letter, as I hope we shall be able to order the Replica later on,[3] but not in the immediate future
Yours truly
Jas. R. Easton

[1] Easton is referring to the production of a copy after de László’s portrait of The Reverend Henry Thomas Bowlby (1864-1940) [2507], which was executed in 1924 and presented to Lancing College on the occasion of Bowlby’s retirement. See DLA056-0020, letter from de László to James R. Easton, 12 February 1925, in which the artist discusses the copy and recommends that the artist Sydney Percy Kendrick (1874-1955) undertake it.
[2] John Sankey, 1st Viscount Sankey (1866-1948) made the presentation of the original portrait [2507] on behalf of the picture’s subscribers.
[3] See DLA056-0025, letter from James R. Easton to de László, 19 May 1925
