Digital Media Academy - Animation Track

Students will learn the tools and skills necessary to create digital animations using a variety of animation techniques and software. This course will introduce students to the principles of animation, history of animation and basic terminology. We will explore traditional, stop motion, 2D and 3D animation techniques.

 

Units of Study

Principles of Animation: This series of projects will develop your understanding of and demonstrate your mastery of the principles of animation.

Drawing Skills: Students will learn a variety of drawing techniques and practice developing their drawing skills throughout the course.

 

Game Design: This project will introduce you to the basic game design principles and explore the typical roles on a game design team.

Online Tools: This series of projects will allow us to explore the wide variety of online design and publishing tools available for free. Most of the materials for this class are online and the majority of assignments will be turned in electronically.

Drawing Skills: Students will learn a variety of drawing techniques and practice developing their drawing skills throughout the course.

Drawing Tablet: In this unit you will learn how to take advantage of a pressure sensitive drawing tablet when working with Flash.

Employment Skills: You will have the opportunity to build your employment skills through team activities, presentations, and building things like resumes and portfolios.

 

Storyboarding: This project will allow you to demonstrate your knowledge and skills creating storyboards for a variety of projects throughout this course.

 

Traditional Animation Techniques: These projects will demonstrate your knowledge of traditional animation techniques, animation genres and the history of animation.

 

Animation Techniques

You will have the option to pursue your passion for animation using the tools and techniques that most inspire you, including:

Stop Motion: This project will allow you to demonstrate your understanding of the challenging process of stop motion animation.

 Motion Graphics: This project will demonstrate your knowledge of basic motion graphics using

Adobe After Effects.

 3D Modeling: This project will demonstrate your knowledge of basic 3D graphics using Blender.

2D Animation: This series of projects will demonstrate your understanding of Adobe Flash.
