IntroductionGateway is available to students wishing to explore a career pathway. Career exploration can include, but is not limited to: Aviation - Engineering/Pilot/ Airport Services (Agriculture - maybe be taken through Gateway if subject option lines don’t allow for Primary Industries Academy to be taken. Students must apply to PIA first) Hospitality-Chef/Barista Retail/Customer Service Hairdressing / Beauty Therapy Construction - Building /Electrical/Plumbing Motor Trades Early Childhood Care Engineering and Infrastructure Works Equine training and coaching Sport and Recreation/Coaching Health Science - Nursing and Sports Medicine Journalism- Print/ Radio Veterinary Nursing /Technician Travel/Tourism/Retail Primary Teaching Information Technology | ||||||||||
Course OverviewStudents will be identified at Subject Choice interviews and by subject teachers. Interviews will take place in the last term prior to Gateway year. Some students may wish to do their work experience outside of school time in weekends or in the holidays. Work experience can be a half day per week o or one full day a fortnight. Students will be expected to keep records of work completed and get sign-offs from employers. Attendance will be reported. Students will have individual programmes determined by their career pathway, made up of theory and practical unit standards. A minimum of 20 credits is required per student. The below table shows core genric units students will complete as part of their programme. Students intending to leave part way through the year should make this known prior to commencement so the 20 credits are achievable. The Gateway Programme is fully funded by the Tertiary Education Commission and is dependent on results for future funding, so it is crucial that students undertake study with intention to complete. Work boots, protective clothing and equipment are supplied when necessary. |
