The Presentation

________Presenter clearly and enthusiastically presents about his or her topic for 3-5 minutes.

________Presentation includes strong visuals (with minimal text) or a creative representation of the material.

________Presenter is a credible expert on the topic speaking knowledgeably, citing references and other experts, including relevant statistics and informative facts.

________Presenter engages the audience with eye contact, questions, and humor, while educating them about the topic of the presentation.

The Blog 

_______ 10 Blog Posts (Intro, historical, data, current events, examples) that

_______ Summarize facts, statistics, points, quotes from the article

_______ Responds / Reacts with questions, thoughts, opinions on the points addressed

_______ includes pictures

_______ is edited for the public (appropriate capitalization, spelling)

_______ / 40 Points

The Feature Article should

_______ introduce topic in a thoughtful manner (narration, description, definition, interesting data, etc.)

_______ provide background information or history (when did people become concerned / interested about this issue?)

_______ explain how this topic affects us today (why are people interested now?  why should we care?)

_______summarize and synthesize your findings over the course of the year to explain the current trends of your topic.

_______ project future developments and implications

(this does not have to be presented in past, present, future order).

_______ Cite to 8 - 12 articles in the above section using MLA format.  Paraphrase or use quotes.  (put the author or organizations last name in parentheses at the end of the sentence.

        ex: The National Institute of health reported 3 out of 10 people visit the emergency room due to stress.

3 out of 10 people visit the emergency room due to stress (National Institute of Health).

_______ Include at least one interview of a person relevant to your topic. Work 3-5 quotes from the interview into your article.

In addition you will be graded on the following style elements:  

_______ Explain your topic clearly using an academic tone (use diction specific to your topic ex: robotics is engineered for.... rather than robotics is made to …. don’t use “really”, “you know”)

_______ Uses at least 3 styles of writing (narration, exposition, definition, description, comparison, etc.)

Organize your article in a journalistic fashion, use:

_______Titles and subtitles, attention getting synopsis in bold

_______block quotes of important content you want to emphasize (quotes in large font)

_______Pictures, photographics, cartoons, Infographics, graphs, or break out boxes

_______10 - 12 point font for main article Ariel or Times New Roman - small / large used for Titles & subtitles

_______Uses a variety of sentence lengths

_______ Include a list of works cited using

        ex. Arrange in alphabetical order
