Highway Cleanup

Our center participates in Adopt-A-Highway cleanup twice a year.  The statewide Adopt-A-Highway program was established in 1988 and is a joint effort between community volunteers and NC Department of Transportation to keep our roads clean. JSCNC adopted a stretch of Highway 54 in Cary between Morrisville Parkway and Airport Boulevard. This stretch is named in honor of Mr. Lalit Banker.

We will continue this tradition at the upcoming Spring cleanup on 13th May. This is a fun activity for children and adults, and shows our commitment to our community.

Meeting Details:

9:00am on Saturday May 13th.

Neomonde Restaurant on Route 54

10235 Chapel Hill Road (Hwy. 54), Morrisville, NC 27560

Please call Priteshbhai at (919) 609-6301 or email at gujjunc@yahoo.com if you have any questions.

Mahavir Jayanti Celebration

Mahavir Jayanti was celebrated at the HSNC Cultural Hall on Sunday April 30th.  With a record turnout of about 450 people, and an accomplished participation in puja and the program, the event was regarded as a success.  The army of volunteers, the many sponsors, and the calibre of children, youth and adult performances underscored their hard work and dedication put behind this event.

You can view the pictures from the event by visiting the link below. Thank you Harshadbhai for capturing these moments.

Mother’s Day Celebration

JSCNC will be celebrating Mother’s Day at the next monthly meeting on May 21st.  Many thanks to Rameshbhai and Pragnaben Shah for sponsoring the Mother’s Day Lunch this year.

Please see a note for the kids in the Pathshala section.

Father’s Day Picnic

For your general information and planning purposes, we would like to announce that Father’s Day Picnic will be held on June 18th at Kiwanis Shelter in Bond Park.  As with every year, we will send out a separate email with more details and  instructions to register if you plan to attend.

YJA Pathshala

YJA Pathshala is an online self-paced course for learning more about Jainism. Intended for youth ages 16-29 who cannot regularly access a traditional pathshala, but open to anyone interested, these materials provide a basic foundational understanding of Jain principles and practice. Extensive prior knowledge of Jainism is not required.

Why Pathshala? Understanding of the meaning behind prayers, rituals and practice will make visits to temple more fulfilling and Jain practice more relevant to your day to day choices and actions. We hope that participants can take what they learn through the Pathshala and apply it to consider their own actions through the lenses of Jain principles such as non-violence, compassion and honesty.

Visit yja.org/pathshala to get started!

For more information, please contact Hetali Lodaya at (919) 260-9619 or via email at hetali.lodaya@yja.org

Amazon Shoppers

Now you can contribute to JSCNC just by doing your regular shopping on Amazon. Visit smile.amazon.com instead of amazon.com and pick Jain Study Center of North Carolina as your designated charity.  See the screenshot below.

Amazon will contribute a portion of the purchase price to JSCNC.

Note that there is no cost to you.  So remember to visit smile.amazon.com every time you would like to shop at Amazon.

Pathshala Dues

JSCNC rents an after-school facility off Morrisville Pkwy., which charges a nominal rental fee for holding these Pathshalas.  Based on this and a few other factors, the committee has calculated the Pathshala fees for this year to be $60 in total per child.

If you haven’t already sent in your payment, please mail the check to our Treasurer ASAP at the following address:

Jaynita Shah

2004 Mountain Ct

Apex, NC 27502

Please make the check payable to “JSCNC” and write your child(ren)’s name in the memo. For example, "Child1, Child2".

Weekly Mahavir Puja

Every Saturday, a Mahavir Puja is performed at the Hindu Temple.  Volunteers sign up to perform this Puja, and are assigned specific Saturdays.

The Puja is very simple and takes less than one hour.  It is a great way to teach and prepare children with this important ritual, so that they find confidence in performing it during daily routine, special occasions or even pilgrimages in India.  Children will learn how to perform the kesar Puja and all aspects of Asht prakari Puja.

Mrs. Rekha Banker, who coordinates weekly Puja, will be happy to demonstrate in person, and has several books with illustrations to help.  If you are interested, please contact her at rekla78@gmail.com or at (919) 676-4548.
