• Not capitalizing the first word in a sentence
• Not putting a period at the end of a sentence
• Don’t use I, we, or you in a social studies essay
• “loose” instead of “lose”
• “alot” instead of “a lot”
• “barley” instead of “barely”
• Misspelling the name of a country or a people – “the Belgiums” is totally unacceptable
• Things that spell check would have caught, like “rtes” instead of “rates”
• “King Leopard” instead of “King Leopold” – sometimes spell check is wrong, guys
• “of” instead of “off”
• “I” instead of “if” or “in”
• “board” instead of “bored”
• “go” instead of “got”

• “dessert” instead of “desert”
• “sense” instead of “since”
• “a” instead of “an”
• Repeated words: “of of”
• “weather” instead of “whether”
• FREAKING APOSTROPHES - “it’s” instead of “its”
• “though” instead of “thought”
• Capitalizing nouns that aren’t proper: “Refugee,” “White,” “Black,” “Rubber,” etc.
• Referring to Africa as a country instead of a continent (or Asia, or South America, etc.)
• “aloud” instead of “allowed”
• “are” instead of “our”
• Indenting at the start of a paragraph - CONSISTENCY
• Form/from
• “themselves” is one word, not two
• “hole” instead of “whole”
• “threw” instead of “through”
