Hillcrest Elementary Newsletter:

August 2017

Principal: Jolene Lincoln

2045 S Pond St., Boise, ID 83705

Dear Hillcrest Students and Families,

I hope you have had time to make lots of great memories and enjoy your summer! The new school year is right around the corner. Class rosters will be posted on the front doors on August 18th at 4 pm. It is a team effort between former teachers, counselor, specialists, administration and parental input to put class lists together. There are many factors that are taken into consideration in order to provide well-balanced class rosters.

The first day of school is on Tuesday, August 22nd. You are welcome to escort your child to the back of the school (West Playground) and wait with them if you desire. Once the bell rings at 9:10, students will line up behind the number of their classroom (which are painted on the blacktop),  say your goodbye’s and teachers will be there to escort students to their classroom.  In lieu of a Sneak Peak, we will be holding Back To School Night much earlier this year. Please plan to come meet your child’s teacher on August 31st. There will be three, half- hour sessions. You choose one at either 6:00, 6:30 or 7:00.

I will be on maternity leave starting August 22nd. I am sad to miss the opening of school year. However, I know Hillcrest will be in very good hands while I am away. Mrs. Paula Bell (retired Boise School District Administrator) and Mrs. Rebecca Severson (Assistant Principal at Horizon Elementary)  will be filling in for me as building administrators while I am away.

Mrs. Bell                          Mrs. Severson

I wish you the best as you prepare for the new school year and begin new adventures! I will miss you all and I  look forward to seeing you later this semester!

  • ALL K-2nd grade students will be escorted by their teacher to the front of the building.
  • Grades 3-6 will exit the building out the door by the library. If they need to meet a younger sibling they will walk to the K-2 pick-up line in front of the school.
  • Students who ride the bus will be escorted out the door by the library to then stand in line behind the sign with their bus number.
  • Students who walk crossing Orchard street will exit the back doors of the school.

Parking Lot Pick Up Procedures

In order to ensure safety for all our students please abide by the following if you pick up your child:

  • Please pull all up as far as you can along the drop off/pick up curb.
  • Please allow space for daycare vans to park where signs are posted.
  • Limit the time you are parked along the drop off/pick up curb.
  • Pull UP to the curb to pick your child up.  If there is not a spot circle around by pulling out of the parking lot and coming back around until there is an open spot.
  • Do NOT double park along the drop off/pick up curb area.
  • Please do not park behind parked cars in the parking lot.
  • Wait for an open spot along the pick up curb. You may need to wait along the street on Pond until there is an opening.
  • If you wait to arrive closer to 3:55 you will avoid the majority of the congestion that occurs right at 3:45.
  • Students who are not picked up by 4:00 will be escorted to the office to wait inside the lobby.

Hillcrest is a Title I School

What does this mean?

Being a Title I school means receiving federal funding (Title I dollars) to supplement the school’s existing programs.

  • Your child may receive assistance in reading or math from a Title I paraprofessional. Paraprofessionals work in class with guidance by highly qualified teachers. They might work with small groups of students or one on one with a child.
  • Children also benefit from training teachers receive or supplemental curriculum materials that are paid for with Title I funds.

Being a Title I school also means parental engagement and parents’ rights.

  • You, as Title I Parents, have the right…
  •  to request the qualifications of your child’s teachers.
  •  to be involved in the development of your school’s Parent Engagement Plan.
  •  to be involved in how  parental engagement money is spent.

For further questions regarding how you can be involved with parental engagement at Hillcrest please contact Heidi Gudmundsen, our counselor who is also our Partnership Action Team Coordinator

For more information regarding our Parent Involvement Policy visit the Boise School District website at http://www.boiseschools.org/parents/title_i/parent_involvement_policies/
