North Rhein Westphalia Special
This region has many different transport authorities, each with their own area. Each club in the region has it’s own deal with their local transport authority. This can mean that travelling between regions can be complicated.
Here are some answers to some frequently asked questions. Pick the topic which most applies to you.

Your best bet is probably to get an NRW ticket before you travel anywhere. This covers you for the whole day in the North Rhein Westphalia region. It also means you don’t have to worry about travelling between different transport authority regions and also covers your travel on local transport (bus, S-Bahn, Underground etc) wherever you are staying.
The ticket cost 30.50 Euros for a single or 45 Euros for up to 5 people. You can buy it online in English here.

Yes. Cologne and Leverkusen are both in the VRS region.
I’m in Cologne and going to watch a match in Bochum/Dortmund/Duisburg/Dusseldorf/Monchengladbach. Is my match ticket valid for travel from Cologne?
No. Cologne is in a different transport authority to the other locations. Cologne is in the VRS region and the others in the VRR.
You have to buy a ticket from where you are in Cologne to the border between the VRS/VRR regions. The most likely extra ticket you will need if you’re travelling to:
For your return journey back to Cologne from wherever you watched a game you should be able to buy VRS tickets at the VRR station. The ticket machines normally have the logo of the neighbouring transport, or you can buy tickets:
If you’re going to be travelling round Cologne when you get back from wherever you’re going it’s probably worth getting a Tageskarte (Day ticket) for the VRR region. This costs 8,60 Euros.
I’m in Dusseldorf and going to watch a match in Leverkusen. Is my match ticket valid for travel from Dusseldorf?
Yes. Although Leverkusen is in the VRS region Bayer Leverkusen offers free travel in the VRS and VRR regions.
