DLA019-0193 Translation
LONDON,
10th April, 1931.
Your letter of 19th March gave me great pleasure,[1] and we thank you warmly for the little silver bowl containing Portuguese sweets, which will always remain a good memento of our friendship.
I was happy to hear from your friend Medina[2] that you are in good health and that the situation in Portugal is better, and also that my painting is so well hung in your house [2721]. However I never doubted it, as I know well your great taste, and how beautifully organised your museum in Lisbon is.
You may be interested to hear that an important exhibition of my works will take place on 1st June at the Charpentier Galleries in Paris.[3] It will last for the whole month of June, and I hope you will have the opportunity to visit it, and that we will meet again. I will stay here in London until 10 May, and then I will go to Paris. Perhaps you will later be able to come to London?
I am happy to let you know that my portrait of Maréchal Lyautey [6118], which was shown last year at the salon, was acquired on behalf of the French State for the Versailles Museum. I really regret that I could not have it for my exhibition, but it is because it will be exhibited at the Colonial Exhibition of which Maréchal Lyautey is the founder.
I am very busy trying to complete a few works for my exhibition in Paris. I like your friend Medina very much; he lunched with us the other day and he has shown us a reproduction of one of his works which I found beautiful. He promised me next time he would show me an original painting. You may also be interested to hear that your famous painter Lopez visited us last year.
With our best wishes, I hope to hear from you soon
Believe me, dear friend,
Yours ever
