Transcript & Recommendation Letter Request Checklist
For schools you are applying to via the Common Application:
1. Go to www.commonapp.org, Click Create an Account (upper right corner) OR Login (if existing account already created):
• Create an account. Be sure to write down your email address/password
• Go to the Common App tab Select Education complete the Education section. Green check marks appear as each subsection/section is completed
• Go to College Search tab Search for and add all schools you are applying to via the Common App (Note: Click on the name of the school once you type in Search box for more important information about deadlines, # of teacher recommendations, etc.
• Go to My Colleges Select any college from the list Click on Recommenders and FERPA select Complete Release Authorization. Some teachers will not submit a recommendation unless you waive your right. Your counselor and teachers will complete their forms via Naviance, do not print offline forms from this site.
• Other Recommenders: Use if you are requesting a non-OJR individual (i.e. clergy, boss, coach, etc.) is submitting a recommendation for you
2. Log in to Naviance (access via your OJR google account in the “waffle” icon app list [Naviance Student]): • Go to My Favorites section Select Colleges I’m applying to Complete the Common App Account Matching section by entering your correct Common Application email address. Click Match • Continue with Step 3
For all colleges, log on to Naviance (access via your OJR google account in the “waffle” icon app list [Naviance Student]):
3. If you previously added the school to Colleges I’m thinking about, go to that screen and: • Review available Application Deadlines for your school. Determine which one you will by applying under
• Check the school off and select Move to Application List
• Skip to step 4B
4. If you did not add the school to Colleges I’m thinking about, go directly to Colleges I’m applying to and: • A. Select the plus icon and search/enter the college’s name
• B. Select the correct and intended application type that you plan to submit (i.e. regular decision, rolling, etc.)
• C. You do not have to check off I have submitted my application
• D. Click the Add and Request button
• E. Indicate which type of transcript you are requesting (i.e. initial)
• F. Click Request and Finish button
** You are done if this is not a Common Application school and if you do not need recommendation letters**
Be sure to provide your transcript & recommendation request at least 15 schools day prior to the set deadline!

For Common Application Schools Only:
5. Go to Colleges I’m applying to, look at the “Submission Type” column...
• If you see a computer screen with a red question mark, please click on the edit icon and indicate if you are applying via Common App OR directly to the institution
• Select Save College Application
If you need OJRHS teacher and/or counselor recommendation letters sent:
6. Teacher recommendations: Be sure all above steps are completed, especially those in yellow. To request letters of recommendation via Naviance, visit the Colleges I’m apply to section and scroll towards bottom section titled “Letters of recommendation”:
• Click the letters of recommendation section hyperlink
• Select Add Request
• Locate your teacher in the dropdown menu
• Select the colleges to which you would like that teacher to submit a letter of recommendation (**important: pay close attention to the required and allowed numbers displayed beneath each college listed)
o You can select All current and future colleges I add to my Colleges I’m Applying to list OR o You can select Chose specific colleges from your Colleges I’m Applying to list
• Include a personal note that will be included on the email notification to the teacher • Click Submit Request
7. Counselor recommendations: Be sure all above steps are completed, especially those in yellow. • Complete your counselor’s questionnaire (located in the Document Resources section of Naviance) • Email the completed counselor questionnaire AND request to write a letter to your counselor’s email
o Include the following in the email:
1. Name of college
2. Application Type being submitted (Early Action, Early Decision, Rolling, etc.)
3. Deadline of application (this is dependent on the type you are submitting)
4. How you are applying (Common App, Directly to Institution)
Be sure to provide your transcript & recommendation request at least 15 schools day prior to the set deadline!
